I felt compelled to write this because exceptional service and exceptional food deserve to be recognized.
My family and I have been vacationing in St. Pete Beach for the past six years, and one tradition we never miss is a visit to Shrimpy's. What's remarkable is that every single year we come back, the food somehow gets even better. Most restaurants struggle to maintain consistency over time, but Shrimpy's continues to raise the bar year after year.
From the moment we walked through the door until the moment we left, everything was absolutely top-notch. Our server, Jake, was outstanding. He was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. Great servers can make a meal memorable, and Jake certainly did that.
Now let's talk about the food.
I have eaten seafood all over Florida and throughout the country, and I can honestly say that Shrimpy's serves some of the finest Cajun-style seafood I have ever had. Every dish was cooked to perfection, seasoned flawlessly, and bursting with flavor. The freshness of the seafood was obvious from the first bite, and the chefs clearly take tremendous pride in what they do.
What impressed me most was that nothing felt rushed, pre-made, or ordinary. Every plate that came to our table looked incredible and tasted even better. It's rare to find a restaurant where both the kitchen and the front-of-house staff perform at such a high level, but Shrimpy's has mastered both.
John John, you have built something special. The fact that my family has returned for six straight years—and that we leave more impressed each time than the year before—says everything that needs to be said. Outstanding servers, phenomenal chefs, a welcoming atmosphere, and food that keeps people talking long after they leave.
In my opinion, this isn't just the best seafood restaurant on St. Pete Beach—it's the best Cajun seafood restaurant I've ever experienced anywhere.
If you're looking for authentic Cajun seafood done right, stop searching and go to Shrimpy's. Five stars isn't enough.
We'll absolutely be back next year, just like we've been for the last six years.
And one final piece of advice for anyone reading this review: save room for the bread pudding. Trust me. Just when you think the meal can't get any better, the bread pudding shows up and delivers the perfect ending to an already unforgettable meal.

“We ate here 2 nights while staying on the beach this week. The hummus and flatbread along with their house salad for a starter was sooo good. The coconut shrimp was good and the coconut curry snapper was the best fish I have ever tasted and I grew up in Florida. We had the garlic snow crab platter and had them spice it up a bit, so buttery and flaky. We also tried the garlic shrimp platter which had plenty of large shrimp and both had delicious butter soaked potatoes and corn on the cob too. Then we had the fried catfish with seasoned fries. The bar messed up 2 of our 5 drinks, which the waitress had remade and apologized saying the got a rush. “I don’t go places twice on vacation, but after having a less than ideal experience at a nearby competitor, I decided to come back for the drinks and the Grouper sandwich! As for the food, it was the best I had in Clearwater. I prefer Diner and Dive local eats compared to overpriced and pretentious restaurants. I had the seafood platter and the Grouper sandwich, and both were outstanding and grilled to perfection. I enjoyed my seafood scallops and grouper with green beans on the platter, but I LOVED my sandwich and fries!

This was also my FIRST stop on the Cocktail Challenge (four stops for four signature drinks at four locations), and I enjoyed my drink on a humid day and, if I’m being honest, loved my Dockside Lemonade the best of all the drinks on the challenge. “What a walk down memory lane this is!!! We haven’t been to Bobby’s Bistro, or its more upscale sister restaurant the Beachcomber in years. Twenty years ago, these two restaurants were the absolute “It” place, the best in Tampa. Amazingly, the decor is exactly the same as 20 years ago but somehow doesn’t look dated at all. The food was fantastic. We met George, our server, who is a bit of a celebrity, and he was super nice and gave me a supersized shot! Glad to give this notable establishment a great review!“
