Kotetsu Chaya Reviews
lovely little local spot on the outside part of honolulu, big recommendation for a more traditional japanese experience
Kotetsu Chaya is such a wonderful restaurant! We loved the ginger pork and chicken kaarage. I’d recommend this spot to anyone who’d like to visit Oahu and try authentic Japanese food!
I was surprised that this business is only a few years old, it has so much character! I think the menu is awesome. I tried their lunch special today, chicken katsu and karaage. I love their karaage, reminds me of my mom's delicious cooking. The friendly staff provided me with a small katsu sauce bottle to use. I needed some food for later, so I ordered Hokkaido curry to go 😁 They do ramen and many noodle dishes as well. The space is bright, families or solo diners can...read full review

Kotetsu Chaya offers an array of delicious dishes that keep customers coming back for more. Their chicken over rice, served with turmeric rice, a fresh cold salad, and a tatziki-like sauce, remains a standout favorite. The yakisoba is another highly praised dish, and the gyoza, known for its juicy, crispy texture and shoyu dipping sauce, makes for a great starter. The ginger pork is noted for its strong ginger taste and thicker slivers, while the karaage chicken comes with generous sides of rice, pasta salad, and a fresh garden salad. Recently, the restaurant has introduced new options like the Karaage Bento, Hayashi Rice, Pork Ginger Bento, Herb Chicken Salad, Saba Bento, and Minced Katsu, with the rice being especially favored. Service at Kotetsu Chaya is friendly and accommodating, with staff always smiling and kind. This makes dining in a pleasant experience despite the takeout-style presentation. The owner, Tomo-San, adds a personal touch by engaging with customers about life in Tokyo. Parking is conveniently located nearby, with plenty of free spaces available.
