“Best food and huge portions“

“We ate breakfast here, seven of us. Pictured are the fried rice with two eggs, stuffed French toast with banana, and loco Moco. We also ordered the spam musubi, two Puakea signature breakfasts, fruit cup, another stuffed French toast with blueberries and strawberries. Everything was fresh and hot and very delicious! The fried rice has eggs, bacon, Portuguese sausage, onion, green onion, peas. It was really way more than I normally eat but it was so good that I ate it all! We highly recommend eating here ?“

“Excellent local eatery specializing in plate lunches. Favorite entrees include pork adobo, various stews and curries, tempura and fried chicken. The Hawaiian plate with pork lau lau is also a standout. A friendly, family atmosphere with hard working employees.“

“Plate lunch was a GREAT deal (~$16-19 for 1 scoop rice, 1 scoop mac salad, and protein of choice - pictured: chicken teriyaki) and tasty too. They also sell burgers and fries, soda, etc.

Ambiance is fine, it is at an airport and feels a bit like a food court even though it has its own area/restaurant space.“

“Found this place the last time we were here in 2018. Came back yesterday and headed right over for some fresh beer and fish tacos. Glad to see they are still great!“

“I had been on island for a week and the day I leave I found this place. The food was amazing and felt like home cooked eating. The owner and staff were friendly and talked to us for quite some time about everything. They are genuinely some of the nicest people we’ve met on the island and must suggest this place to anyone and everyone that is coming to Kauai. Don’t make the same mistake we did, come on your first day and you won’t be disappointed.“

“Staying at the Royal Sonesta and relaxing on Kalapaki beach, Kukui's is convenient and their gourmet burgers have a rich and decadent flavor, spot on! Drinks are refreshing! We like the blended strawberry daiquiris and pina coladas (virgin) especially.
Use the free parking on the southside of the Sonesta, with a 1-minute walk to the beach!“

“We stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort and went to Shutters the first night to get a drink to have while walking on the beach. It was not high quality. I saw the "bartender" go to the cooler and grab a premixed "manhattan" in a glass and pour it into a plastic cup for us to go out to the beach area. My wife had a mai tai. I think that one was at least mixed when it was ordered. Mine tasted like it was - tired, a bit diluted, and clearly made long before I drank it. If that were the end of the story, I would be arguing about whether to do 2 or 3 stars, but the best part is what came next. We were wandering around in Hanapepe and ended up buying a fresh dragonfruit from a little store. When we came back, I went to the bar to see if they could give me a knife. I expected a plastic or maybe butter knife, but the busboy got me a steak knife, which was so much better. Next night, we had some left over poke and I asked for whether they had soy sauce, and the busser came back with packets for us to take to the room. The staff definitely went out of their way and I would give 5 stars for that, but I cannot ignore the bad drinks. Did not get to try the food.“

“Much better than expected, big pours of wine and surprisingly great burger with a mountain of fries as well. Bartender was friendly and enjoyed our conversation with him. Has a bigger seating area in back as well not sure why the ratings are so low but for us it was a great stop.“

“Located at the Outrigger hotel and adjacent to Kauai Beach Villas, this restaurant is convenient and very pleasant with indoor and outdoor seating. Breakfast was delicious with poached eggs, Canadian bacon, papaya and mimosa with many other selections. Dinner offerings cover every appetite, including a daily catch-of-the-day. Food is deliciously prepared from an abundant selection. Desserts are divine. Service is gracious and delivered with a smile.“
