“My husband and I were in Altoona to get pedicures at our favorite salon spa Signatures.

While we were getting our pedicures we were talking about where we could go and eat some delicious Chinese and Altoona and we asked the people that were doing our pedicures where they would recommend.

The very first thing out of both of their mouths was to go to Thai Basil which was just down the street from the salon.

We looked it up. Got in the car. Mapped our way there and as soon as we got there we were greeted very nicely and quickly by the girl at the front desk.

We got seated and before we even got sat down, our waitress was at our table asking us what we would like to drink and bringing us the menus.

She returned with our drinks and took our order for our appetizers and while we were looking at the menus to figure out what we wanted for our entrees she brought our appetizers out.

We had the fried wontons and the fried potstickers and my husband and I both decided that they were some of the best ones that we have ever had and we have traveled many many places and had many different options.

The waitress was right on point coming back and checking on us regularly. She had a smile every time. Very very kind, very efficient and always brought what we asked. Came back to refill our drinks. She was just an excellent waitress.

I had the Mongolian beef and the beef was some of the most tender beef that I have ever had in a Chinese food dish before and my husband had the sesame chicken which was very perfectly crispy and the best sauce ever.

My husband also had a Des Moines roll that was sushi. I can tell you that the serving size is there are double wherever you're going to get them and the price is about half.

The restaurant was also very clean. It smelled good in there. Everything was set up nice. It had good Decor. I would not hesitate for a minute to go back to this place.

“I am from Colorado and I first visited Jethro’s on Drake University campus back in 2006. My son was attending college there, and we just had to try Jethro’s BBQ. We have been hooked on it since… This place not only creates amazing BBQ, but they also are very customer focused. I recently visited my brother-in-law in Osage, IA and had the privilege of interfacing with multiple AMAZING customer focused Jethro Employees. The first was Fernando Lara. I developed a paprika allergy within the last two years, and so I contacted Fernando who took the time to research their entire menu to alert me ahead of my visit of the items that contain paprika. The second contact was actually our outstanding server, Tara, at their Ankeny, IA location. Tara took care of my entire crew (there were 8 of us…). Finally, I had the BEST follow-up experience with Sarah Huffman in Corporate Operations. Her genuine niceness and willingness to assist me was unmatched. Thanks Sarah, you have even more solidified my loyalty to Jethro’s …”

“I went here the other day and my gosh their staff is amazing! I had this sweet young girl take my order and you would’ve thought she’d have years of experience in customer service! I asked how long she had worked there and she said a little over a month. However they are training those kids they are doing amazing!”

“I go every week for the fish tacos. I love that they use cabbage instead of lettuce. Makes the taco taste AHHHH-maxing! Plus they are located in proximity to The Amusement park. Quick trot there & back to enjoy!”

“I was on my way home, and craving a meatball sandwich. I drive right by this restaurant and thought “surely, they will have a meatball sandwich.” They did, and it comes with onion rings or waffle fries. I chose fries. When I opened the box, it looked so delicious, the right amount of cheese and the waffle fries were seasoned. The meatballs were absolutely delicious and the bread was soft. I’m not usually a fries person, but the seasoning was great, no ketchup needed. I will definitely be back to try more things off the menu. If the meatball sandwich was this good, I think I’m in for a great meal!”

“One of the few places in the Des Moines, IA area where you can get Cinnabons.
It's in a truck stop, so there's nothing to complain about the atmosphere. The service was not very communicative, but we got what we wanted.

Note: These cinnamon sticks are huge!”

“I normally would not leave a review for a chain restaurant, but we had such exceptional service that it felt merited. Our server was the most attentive and kind server I have ever had at a restaurant like this and it made our meal great. I did not catch his name but he was an absolute rock star and he made our day!”

“When we got here there was only high tops. The hostess could see that we had small children and made a point of getting a booth cleared in 5 min to accommodate our family. Angeleah was a great waitress. Very patient with our children and attentive to us.”
