Sports Bars in Ames

Hilton Coliseum Sports Bar • $$
1705 Center Dr, Ames

“We are Cyclones fans, so this is the place to go for all winter sports. (Especially wrestling). Get there early for parking. You may walk a distance to get there from the parking lot. The steps at the south entrance are showing their age and need repair. Interior is great for a sports venue. You may have to navigate a number of stairs, but that is expected in a coliseum.“

Mother's Pub and Coffee Coffee Shops • $

“Gayle, Scott, Dad, and I had just experienced a forgettable meal experience at the nearby HyVee Cafe. Instead of heading straight home, Scott suggested that we drive past our former Ames house and then stop for a drink at Mother's Pub, which was known as Dugan's Deli when he attended ISU. We had a nice time, as we ordered our drinks, took them to the patio outside, and let Scott reminisce about his college days. And even though I graduated as a Hawkeye, I could tell my own Ames stories, like the time Bob Merrill and I stormed onto the old Clyde Williams Field with others to cheer the ISU football team during coin toss. As ISU is not in session, Mother's Pub was a bit quiet, like we were almost the only ones there. I wouldn't mind coming back to hear some live music and hanging out with family again.“

“Was not disappointed. Food and beverages were ordered in a timely fashion and brought out even quicker. Not a complaint but the only part that was different was having to wait for the onion rings and wings to cool down because they were too hot to handle.Normally anyplace I go I don't have to wait to eat my food. Was nice to be able to eat out as soon as we could handle the heat.If you have the chance, go.That is all!“

“We ordered food in bulk to share with our family as our sister is currently battling leukemia at Mary Greeley Hospital. We are into month 2 and she is still there. The food brought us closer as a family and we were able to share Dec. 23rd together to celebrate Christmas and surround her with love. She ate a bunch of food as she had not been eating much! I can not thank you enough for helping us have time to be a family and not worry about cooking! ♡“

“Was leery based off of the reviews, but if you want a cold drink and good service, then this is the place. The bartenders were quick, kind and diligent. It's rare to go in a bar where servers aren't just in a corner on their phone. These guys were really good! This place is well run.“

“Great service, great food. I hadn't been to the new location yet. I was slightly upset when I found out they no longer serve their "Here today, gone to Maui" Mahi dish or Bison burgers. Overall, it was still a great experience, and I will be back!Parking: The parking lot behind the building is shared with other surrounding businesses, so it was a little difficult to find a parking spot. I would recommend coming early or planning on walking.“

“Best reuben egg rolls I've ever had. Even though the only ones I've had but fantastic. And the fries are right up there with them. Service slow. Music got alil loud for only being 1:00 pm lunch crowd. Cater to the men more than anything. Which would make since with everything hanging out that is the purpose of attire. But kudos on the confidence. Good place to go“

“Love the food. Originally came because I found out they got some fried chicken, but I stayed for the people. Shout out to the bartenders, they always cool people. My go to foods are the meatloaf and their wings, but I also like their new hot honey chicken sandwich they recently added. Best sides imo are fries and Brussels. Among the best fries in Ames imo.“
