“I DO NOT RECOMMEND!! It appears they have their do no recommend set so that your post cannot publish. Called this morning to let the staff know we were going with a group of 12 and they said that would not be a problem. In an hour our group received water and a drink order placed but never got it. The same server continued to wait on other tables, make drinks for other tables and made no effort or hurry to make ours or come back to take our order. In addition, the bartender continued to walk around and socialize rather than makes drinks. We even wrote down our whole order and patiently waited for her to come back to make it easy for her. This is the second that we have attempted to come to your establishment with the same results.“

“They've really tried to change in the last 5 years or so. They offer daily special meals like steak night (mondays) and taco night (tuesdays). The steaks are legit some of the best I've ever had. Served with very well seasoned grilled onions and mushrooms.

“The owner is an absolute saint, he is so nice and a great human being! However, the bartender Megan Hampton is honestly the worst human being I’ve ever met in my life. She was rude to me the second I walked into the bar, then she screamed at me, I went to another bar, and the bartender said Megan did the exact same thing to her and her boyfriend. She openly talks about using cocaine and other inappropriate talk around the bar. She is single-handedly ruining the reputation and good name of Poncho. If you don’t believe me, sit at the bar when Megan is working and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.“

“Great Staff!! Very friendly and attentive even though they were busy and there were a lot of various activities happening in the area. Examples; Sr. Olympics, sports tournaments, State Fair arrivals, car races etc.

“They used to have bands here but now I think they're embracing the neighborhood bar persona. I really think it's the best non Irish bar pints of Guinness in Des Moines. Food is always good there. seems to be an older crowd there usually. Also i once had a gin martini there that was out of this world!“

“I ordered A cup of soup and a side salad. I was told that the soup was a brothy soup and wouldn't have any type of thickener in it. Since I'm gluten free, that's what I needed. Unfortunately, when the cup of soup came it was not brothy. It was a thick soup. One of the people that I was with ordered some type of salmon I believe it was, it was so spicy she couldn't eat it. I didn't think the food was anything fantastic. The service was good in the atmosphere was good.“
