“What an experience!! Having been a server in a fine dining restaurant many years ago what stood out to me most at Oak Park, on top of the amazing food and classy aesthetic, was the clockwork like polished service provided by the waiters and sommelier. Maybe it's a post COVID nostalgia for the old days of a well staffed restaurant, but it's been a long time since we've had every need proactively taken care of and plate settings artfully whisked away without thought. Top it off with a great menu and fantastic flavor combinations created by the kitchen team with no detail ignored. Keep up the amazing work!“

I chose to stick with my regular staples, either an old fashioned or their penicillin. I loved the neon signs which I've attached to this review.“

Noce Cocktail Bar • $
1326 Walnut St #100, Des Moines

“Noce is always a fun night out, whether in a group or a couples night out. I was looking for so.ething different to do to celebrate Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day hit during the weekday this year so we couldn't celebrate on actual Valentine's Day. I decided to get us tickets for the Max Wellman Valentine's Day event. First off I love that I can see all the upcoming events on the website. Totally easy to order tickets on line. I always stress about having my tickets up when I get somewhere, the front desk just asked my name and took us to our table. The show was great. Max Wellman always puts on a good show. He even had another performer come up and sing a song. The waitress was nice and attentive. I can't wait to go back again.“

Finn's Pub Cocktail Bar • $

“I am an activity director for a local memory care, and to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we tried Finn's Pub. They were MORE THAN accomodating! We visited on a Thursday afternoon, and that coming Saturday and Sunday, the owners were making Corned Beef and Cabbage. When they knew we were coming, they whipped up a special batch just for us! It was so kind! The residents loved the drinks, the food, and the atmosphere. Thank you so much for hosting us!“

Greenwood Lounge Cocktail Bar • $
3707 Ingersoll Ave, Des Moines

“Well I haven't been here in over 20 years but it hasn't changed one single bit. The dogs are still playing cards and pool on the walls and the booths are the same just a whole lot more worn. Actually the booth had a huge hole in the seat that you could see clear to the floor. The seating was missing tiles and you could see large holes in the ceiling too. It really didn't bother me because you expect this here...it was however the first time I have ever been here with the lights turned up. It definitely needs to have the light on much lower... The only other thing is the back door you have to enter from since the city removed most of the parking. It is so dangerous. The concrete is deteriorating and broken and the steps are very scary. I suspect people fall back there regularly...But over all it brought back fond memories of times long ago!!!“

Kathy's Irish Pub Cocktail Bar • $
6705 Hickman Rd, Des Moines

“I think I found me pot o gold! Yes my name is Patrick so if you couldn't tell by the name my Irish roots go all the way back to the Island. I wouldn't call me St. Patrick by any means because as legend says he feared nothing not even death! .. I will say I won't be scared to come back to Kathy's. The bartender was super welcoming, and chatty, He even shook my hand at the end of my visit. He was very attentive to all 10 of us in the bar, all from different walks of life! I was super excited that a guy brought in and set up his daughters girl scout cookies to sell to patrons and yes next thing you know everyone in the bar is sharing a variety of Girl Scout Cookies! Law and Order SVU was on the Tv, William Shatner's Christmas album was on the touch tunes and I enjoyed a lazy Sunday afternoon with a cool crew of folks. The place is cool and has framed photos of famous people with Irish roots.. We ain't just talking Conan, Bono, and Van Morrison we are talking Hitchcock and Detective Benson from Law and Order SVU's mom Jayne Mansfield.. Who I happened to just look up on Wiki to make sure on the spelling of her name and I discovered that Jimi Hendrix played on her music she put out in the 60's... WOW all I can say.. I feel pretty LUCKY to know that and pretty LUCKY to have gone to Kathy's.“

The New Northwestern Cocktail & Wine Bar Cocktail Bar • $

“This is a lovely little cocktail bar! Such a cute space--would make a great date spot. As a fan of gin, I love the emphasis on gin drinks--and all of the ones I've tried have been very nice. A highlight is the White Negroni: it has the balanced bitter and sweetness reminiscent of a traditional negroni, but is a little lighter and less aggressive than it's Campari cousin. I'm a big fan--and it's a great deal at happy hour“

“We were visiting from out of town in late January. Des Moines had just had a heavy snowfall and the streets were not in great shape so we wanted to find a BBQ restaurant close to our hotel and found Rrackss via the Yelp app. We were there at 6:00 on a Friday night and there were no customers in the restaurant. We thought they might be closed. Parking was limited as they share a small parking lot with other businesses. It was dark, raining hard, and the street in front of the building was very narrow because of the piled up snow and it did not feel like we could park there. The food was delicious, served quickly, and really hit the spot. Another couple came into the restaurant shortly after we did and with only four customers the waiters were able to be very attentive. Come on, Des Moines, support this great restaurant!“
