“Authentic Mexican in Iowa? Who would have guessed! We live in Texas, where good street tacos are prized. Maria's are as good as any I've had at home or in Mexico City. The posole was flavorful, and husband said the burrito was five star. Homemade horchata was best I've had anywhere. Every time we come to Marshalltown for family, Maria's is a must stop. Don't expect a fancy restaurant. It's window service from an old house, and you eat at picnic tables on the enclosed front porch or outside. But every Texan knows the best Mexican food comes from a hole-in-the-wall joint.“

“Ordered the club sandwich today which was large in scale but lacking in quality. The sandwich is 3 thick pieces of bread stacked with very little meat, cheese and what you expect in a $11.00 sandwich. Jimmy John's loads more meat, cheese and fixings on their sandwich. I felt like I was eating a loaf of bread with packaged processed meat. Huge disappointment. Service was great food not so great. This place is in trouble. Not going back!

Update: I'm back and very pleased with the fact that Legend's is a survivor. The meal and service were very good. Marshalltown doesn't have a lot to choose from if you want something other than Mexican, Chinese, pizza or fast food and Legends does not disappoint. Stopped in twice this week to make sure I didn't just get lucky with one meal. I tried a tenderloin and it was huge, prepared perfectly and not a frozen fried one like most places serve. Others who were with me tried different meals and were all really pleased with the quality. Service was spot on. Will return, give it a try!“

“There were very few customers there when we came for dinner so we got very diligent and kind service from multiple servers. I had to mark the atmosphere down one as I had to kick aside a piece of dropped lettuce from my path getting into our booth, depositing it about a foot from a dropped plastic wrapper for a straw next to another table. It made me feel things were a little unsanitary. Right when we were about to order food to eat.

The servers were rolling silverware when those things were on the floor next to them. I understand they can't sweep and vacuum all the time, and we came after the dinner rush, but I think it would be wise for one person to go around the dining area and pick up obvious things like that off the floor, after meal rushes, while the other person rolls silverware, etc. I say this as a former store owner and it is something I would have advised my employees to do after a big rush: 1 work on straightening and picking up while maybe the other work on prepping new product to go out, etc.

The service and food were fabulous. And we will greatly enjoy our take home muffins, too. It was the feel good, relaxing, hearty meal experience our souls needed after stressful times. And we chose to go to Perkins because we felt we could count on having that enjoyable pass time there.“

On another note: they seem to be understaffed, the hosts and waiters are trying their best, even if they can be forgetful, they have long days like you do. be kind to them.“
