6 Best American Restaurants near Alto Pass

Peachbarn Winery & Café Cafe • $$
560 Chestnut St, Alto Pass

“Peachbarn winery and cafe is a unique space along the Illinois wine trail. Peachbarn offers tastings and dinner. I would highly recommend stopping for dinner and especially try the soup. The tasting counter is just that, a counter and not really set up as a bar but more like get and pay for your tasting here and take it over there and sit down. The server was just the server and the person who was pouring the tastings was was just the person pouring the tastings. Still a must stop offering a solid selection of wine and food that I would stop for even if there was no wine offerings. There are many wineries to stop at and Peachbarn definitely makes the list of wineries you must visit.“

“Seen this neat looking building with big letters spelling eat. My wife and I pulled in for a bit it was amazing we both got the chicken fried steak and one of all the side the dumplings was my favorite along with sweet tea.Parking: The parking was the worst of the whole thing small and awkward pull in with small crowded front parking lot and a much larger back parking lot but nothing pointing it out and was almost blocked with cars.“

Family Style Chicken Dinner

“...somewhere west of Panther Den Forest and south of the Little Grassy Fish Hatchery and Giant City Stables, in the midst of the lakes and hills of southern Illinois lies a timeless national treasure (spanning at least two counties..Jackson and Union) . Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s/40s as part of Giant City State Park, the lodge has been independently operated by the same family ever since. Three generations of family keep the lodge operation running... thsnk you Richard, Mike, Mikey ..and Mikeys Mom !The restaurant seems to specialize in fried chicken and prime rib with an all you can eat / family style offering. Since I no longer accept the "all you can eat" challenges, I had the Maple bourbon glazed salmon. Excellent glaze. Nicely cooked. Baked potato with butter and sour cream, and then this singular Giant carrot ?Anyway...there is tons to do down here...with cabins available for rent at this same location...and the multitude of lakes, wineries, and other attractions.Watch out for bigfoot !“
