Very pretty little cafe with outdoor seating space. We only tried the baked goods which were also very pretty and started at $4.50 a piece. The donuts are unconventional--imagine a slightly denser challah shaped like a donut. They're bready and sort of chewy, but it works as a pastry and would pair well with coffee. The staff was friendly and there was plenty of space--no line on a Saturday morning.
Mango chili lime was one of the three available flavors. I chose it over maple bacon and birthday cake. The lime curd was perfectly tart with visible lime flecks in it. The flavor combined with the mildly spiced, mildly sour chili powder and the nicely balanced mango icing was superb. Even better, the yeast-raised dough was pillowy soft without being too bready, crumby, or greasy. Not quite the perfect raised dough, but a very strong contender. So I am a frequent customer of Metric Coffee (which is hands down my favorite coffee shop in Chicago and possibly ever.) one day I took a chance on grabbing one of their brite pastries, and PTL I did because it was one of the flakiest and buttery biscuit I've ever had. I've gone on to have their ham and cheese pastry (which uses béchamel sauce..drool worthy) and their tomato pesto pastry which is legit some of the best pesto I've ever tasted.
