“This restaurant is the best! The food is delicious and plenty of heat if you want it—also dishes that are not spicy. Menu has plenty to choose from and new dishes being added each time I go. Some of the best Sichuan food anywhere. Excellent, friendly service. Lovely ambiance. Right in Printer’s row, lots of street parking. Highly recommended!“

“After 8 years of trying restaurants in Chicago, I can confidently say that Dongpo Impression is my favorite. It is also a favorite among multiple of my friends who hail from China.
If you’re dining in and can eat it fresh, you have to try the dry chili eggplant, which makes you rethink what eggplant can be. It is unbelievably crispy with bursts of salty, savory, and spicy flavor in each bite. The green peppercorn fish, Meizhou dry chili chicken, and green beans are also delicious.
The restaurant is clean and not too loud, and it’s usually easy to walk in and find a table even for a large party. They also validate parking.
Over the years, the quality of the food here has been consistently excellent. My impetus for writing this review now is a positive experience ordering catering for a group of 30. The process was hassle-free, with the person we spoke to assuring us we could even update our order the morning of. Everything was packed efficiently and securely into high-quality reusable bags, and utensils, plates, and napkins were provided as well. They were also able to accommodate dietary restrictions, including no peanuts or pork. Finally, we had to request a milder spice level for some members of our party, and they accommodated this too while still making the dishes perfectly flavorful and balanced. The price was reasonable for catering (it’s the normal menu price and there may even be a discount) and the portion size was great—we had a lot of leftovers at the end.“

“Corner restaurant in the Chinatown Square basement food court. We tried the steamed pork and napa dumplings as well as the pan fried beef bao, both were extremely fresh and delicious! Don’t come here in a hurry but the food is definitely worth the wait.“

“This is literally my favorite place in Chinatown. It is such a hole in the wall and food is so authentic that only mainlanders go here. You have to go downstairs in the basement of the king karaoke place. This is a no frills place - you go up to order and pick up the food when it’s ready. The portions are made to share. I highly recommend the eggplant port dish and the pickled cabbage fish soup!“

“Incredible food and wonderful customer service! Our lovely server recommended the egg tofu with pea tips and beef short ribs with black pepper sauce. And she was right! Both dishes were authentic and satisfying. The tofu was so flavorful and the beef was tender. The owner shared with us that this is the oldest Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. We will definitely be back to support!“

“This place is awesome! I don’t know why this place has not gotten famous yet since the potato noodles are so delicious and authentic. 土豆粉 and 黄焖鸡 are so good - I have ordered delivery and had dine in experience, and the food just hit the right spot!!“

“Really good value, especially for the Chicago loop. I ordered one of the lunch specials and got a really tasty, full meal (including some complementary spicy cabbage) for just over $10!
You're supposed to order on your phone with a QR code, so I'm not sure what happens if you don't have a phone available. Also, there's no public restroom, so plan ahead.“

“Great cheap authentic Chinese food! The only reason for the 4 stars is that it's hard to differentiate this one from other authentic restaurants around the chinatown area.
The crispy chicken was super crispy, kind of small on meat but still really yummy.
The spicy pork dumplings were well cooked, super flavorful.
The green beans were a table favorite and the mapo tofu was decent. The orange chicken with broccoli was really meaty, each chicken piece was huge.
Service was kind and food came out fast!“
