“We understand why it’s named Gretel… if you’re wondering where Hansel is, he starved to death waiting for his burger. To be fair, it’s one of the best burgers you can get in Chicago BUT you should not come here if you have any other plans that evening. It took 30 minutes longer to be seated than they initially told us (over an hour and a half total). Once we were seated, pretty sure the waiter forgot about us at our table, but it didn’t really matter because the vibes were high 👌🏼 The drinks were great, but consider bringing your own because you’ll grow a five o’clock shadow waiting for your next round. The host, Jonah, was the shining star of the evening and was truly hilarious. But our waitress kept trying to argue that “well” and “well done” were different levels of doneness, so that was annoying (and slightly concerning). Overall, the food was phenomenal, but it was a very slow experience - the antithesis of “fast” food.“

“They have a great selection of beers, and many of them are sour beers which is not easy to find in a lot of places. The food I had was simply delicious. I will definitely come back and suggest anyone who wants to have a good beer with better than regular brewery food try this place!“

“Such an amazing spot! A great addition to the neighborhood! The service is amazing, everyone who works here is so friendly, kind and attentive. The food is great (the santi spring rolls is a hit on the salty side however). This spot is not just great as a local spot, but also worth a trip. The outdoor patio area is so nice and has music and indoors, there’s a really charming atmosphere with a fireplace. Love it!“

“Excellent service and a lovely fireplace. I went Saturday night, which was very busy. Normally I go early evening during the week when it is quieter. The food is superior, not bar food at all. Just delicious. The wait staff is always pleasant and quick. This is a wonderful local spot.“

“This is a really nice spot to hang out. It's quiet enough you can have a conversation and they have sports on the multiple TVs. When the weather is nice, they also have outdoor seating. The bar staff is friendly. They also have probably my favorite food in all of Avondale. I highly recommend the wings or the nachos, but everything I've had is very quality.“

“This underrated Irish gastropub located on the corner of Lincoln and Sunnyside across from Wells Park in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. At first I was reluctant to go based on some old past reviews but decided that I needed to give it a try for myself. I was pleasantly greeted and immediately served a glass of water with a lemon wedge. I arrived during Happy Hour and ordered a Dirty Martini with Kettle One vodka. It was the BEST cleanest and clearest "Dirty Martini" I've ever received anywhere vs other places that were too cloudy with an overpowering amount of olive juice. As a regular favorite go-to drink of mine, it became CLEAR to me that for the first time I was finally served the perfect well balanced Dirty Martini. For starters, I was recommended by the bartender Ralph, the Crispy Goat Cheese that came with a tomato based sauce spread and lightly toasted Peasant bread. The goat cheese (my favorite) was perfectly fried warm and soft on the inside and a crispy light breading on the outside. It was amazingly delicious, hardy and dainty at the same time. The presentation was on point! Next was the Beet and Goat Cheese Salad without any meat added. By far, this is a true rock star of all salads. Not only is it very tasty but also heart healthy and provides great energy and libido. The baby spinach was fresh, crisp and CLEAN. All the other ingredients just made it all the more better which I paired with a glass of Pinot Grigio wine from Italy. On to the dessert, which was also recommended, Butterscotch Pecan Bread Pudding with Vanilla Bean Gelato. It blew me away. It was beautifully presented, warm, moist and just the right amount of sweetness. It was suggested that I have a small pour of dessert liqueur, Shanky's Whip, to pair together. It's a whiskey "blend" with vanilla and caramel tones and a Butterscotch aroma. I was truly taken back how delightful it tasted. Just when I thought my exceptional experience was over, I happen to get into a discussion about Ron Zacapa Rum made with virgin sugar cane. I learned about the process of how it's made and operated by a woman. It was very interesting topic. Ralph the bartender whipped up, on the spot, a new twist on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail using this premium Guatemalan rum. It was outstanding! I do hope they consider adding this to their regular cocktail menu. I would definitely order it again! Before I left, I did order a Reuben Sandwich to go for tomorrow's lunch. It had a good hefty amount of corned beef and still good the next day. To quickly point out a few things...they have 3 entrances. The main entrance is a revolving glass door. The other 2 doors are handicap accessible, a well lit side door on Sunnyside Ave. and a dining room entrance on Lincoln Ave. The bathroom was clean with a standard size stall and a spacious handicap stall. They have a separate dining room/party room for gatherings or to just come & eat if you don't want to dine in a bar setting with family. A kid's menu is available. It's holiday decorated and cheerful. The owner, Owen, politely answered my question about outdoor seating in the summer. It seats up to 70 people on both streets, Sunnyside Ave facing Wells Park providing a more peaceful view and Lincoln Ave facing the main busy street. I noticed alot of women here...more than some other places I've been to and instantly felt at ease. I did strike up a conversation with a small group of women who were seated along the additional tables across from the bar. To my surprise, it was also their 1st time. They were walking and looking for something to eat and the well lit lighting outside and decorations made them feel safe & inviting. The bar-back was hustling, cleaning and restocking. They have a big selection of beer and ciders on tap, bottles and cans. I noticed they serve a perfect beer on draft with a glass rinse as it cools simultaneously. This place is a true diamond in the ruff with elevated food options, cocktails & bar staples. A must go kinda place to ex“

“everything has been good here except the fact that the chicken tenders are so depressing.. 17.95 before taxes. for this with an extra ranch. no fries. (i won’t lie i ate one chicken tender before taking picture) however most times you get 2 long ones and a bunch of super small ones. for the price they should 5 large tenders or come with a side. if not lower price. i will support this place because service and atmosphere are great for me but i always leave feeling ripped off when i open my tenders.“

“Pretzel bites and Chicken tenders. Chicken was awesome. Pretzel bites were overcooked. Server was friendly. Disappointed that they added a tip without telling me, I tipped again, so I guess that was their plan all along.

“We came by Pippin's one evening for drinks and found it to be a great joint. A nice Irish pub with a great selection of Irish whisky's and a full bar and menu. Our server Joseph took good care of us and we tried a few libations before heading out on the town. Highly recommend Pippin's and we'll make it a point of coming back.“

“I had my 60th birthday party at Burke's. It was awesome! We had the party room and it worked great. We NEVER had to ask for food to be brought out as they kept up with it all and replenished as needed. We had a dedicated bartender who was great. The staff were constantly clearing plates and glasses through our 3 hours there. Such a great place and such great staff!“

“We went at Christmas time. They decorate the restaurant from the ceiling to the floor in lights. You can't help but get in the festive mood. We did make reservations and we came earlier and they still sat us. The staff was very friendly. I started with a cocktail called the Ramblers Rest. It was tasty. I could really taste the pomegranate notes. For appetizers we got the poutine. It is okay. For dinner I got the chef's wedge salad it was delicious. The homemade ranch dressing and the bacon bits totally made the salad. My hubby got their shepherd's pie. He said it was great. They have Coke products. They have a private area, and plenty of seating options. They have two fire places. I definitely want to go back during the summer. It looks like they have a large patio. Oh and they have a no stroller rule in the restaurant.
Kid-friendliness: No strollers allowed in the restaurant.“

“I attended a friend's birthday party in a private upstairs room, which featured a full bar and three beautifully decorated party spaces with ample seating. The front room had a pool table that was a hit throughout the evening. Our friend highly recommended the wings, and they definitely lived up to the hype! The bar staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring all guests were well taken care of. I highly recommend this venue and will definitely consider hosting a celebration here myself!“

“This was a great experience! My group had 4 people total and we all enjoyed the experience here. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because the server took quite awhile to get back to us each time. He was very nice and did a great job; he just took alittle long to get back to us a few times when we needed something. But overall, I would recommend this place. The wings were good and the drinks were good as well. My wife and her friend had the salmon sliders and they said they were prepared very well. I had the hot honey chicken sandwich with fries and I enjoyed it. Especially if you like a spicy kick. This place did a good job“

“I can only speak for the Karaoke scene, but this place is great! They have a vast selection of songs and two rooms that are 'somewhat' soundproof. I say somewhat because I heard the other room singing, BUT NOTABLY, they were a large group so they had their door open; not a problem, just providing an explanation.
That aside, it can be pretty busy during Friday nights / Weekends. Also they have all sorts of games/events/bowling/trivia things. Definitely a great place for young adults to hang out.
IF YOU DO COME FRIDAY OR SATURDAY NIGHTS, you may want to consider taking a bus (the 8 I believe) or an Uber/Lyft since traffic/parking around here can be tight/near impossible to navigate. Please do not let this deter you, just plan ahead and expect to have fun.“

“I had an amazing time at FTW Arcade Bar! The atmosphere is perfect for a fun night out with friends. The arcade games are a blast, and the vibe is electric.
What really stood out, though, was the exceptional service from our bartender, Luke. He was not only super friendly but also knew how to make some killer cocktails! Luke was attentive, quick, and always had a great recommendation ready when we were unsure of what to try next. His energy added to the overall fun of the night, making our experience unforgettable.
If you’re looking for a great place to unwind with games, drinks, and top-notch service, FTW is the spot to be. Huge shoutout to Luke..he made our night! Can’t wait to come back!“

“First - Anya was a rockstar and somehow served almost the entire restaurant on her own and still provided a great experience for our group of 15! Anya made this a great happy hour event!
Second - They quickly accommodated our group of 15 on a Thursday after our original location fell through. They made it work very well!
Third - For those looking for a location that's great for a group all taking different trains, it's very hard to beat this location in OTC.
Food was good, place was full and loud, made it a win for our larger group. Nicely done!“
