“The concept for the menu is a unique trip along the Pan-American highway with stops at various Latin countries. Each dish and drink is thoughtful in its ingredients and presentation. The jicama salad was refreshing, but not at all plain. The pastel de choclo was a wonderful surprise of a warm dish. The frozen el arenal was seriously dangerous in how delicious it was, I can’t recommend it enough. The atmosphere was beautiful and the music was perfect. We are so thrilled to have this gem in the neighborhood and can’t wait to see what they do in the future!“

Miriam, our server was so knowledgeable about the menu and so accommodating — multiple things were sent to us on the house and after we tried the Arak “milk of lions” and didn’t like it due to its strong liquors taste she was quick to taking it off of our bill and was very receptive of the feedback. You have to try the labneh spreads and beetroot mutabbal too! We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who is Suda‘s daughter and came to find out that every recipe on the menu is her mom‘s very own. You can taste the love in every bite. I love that when I go there they have everything fresh and everything is in stock and if there’s a waiting time, it’s not more than 10 minutes and the cookies are amazing for dessert. I love that the food is gluten-free even the cookie!
The price is just right for lunch or dinner!

The service is quite lacking here tho. If you do an online order for pickup, expect for something to go wrong. I’ve had multiple orders be late by 20+ minutes, or I get my order home and it’s completely wrong. I recommend just waiting in the line to order in person.“

The tavern is so thin that there’s barely any room for sauce, if you care. Still solid tavern.“

Came to enjoy diner here with a close friend, although I will say the food was good overall the prices were out of line for what food was being served at this restaurant. They need to be a bit more conscientious about what they are charging for some of the dishes there, although I love pasta I did not enjoy spending as much on the food there as I did when knowing I could’ve easily had a better meal from a restaurant I would’ve preferred for steak, but this is the restaurant my friend wanted to go to in particular for the breadsticks and soup, fortunately that is what made the visit worth going. The unlimited soup and breadsticks helped balance out the value of the meal.“

I recently hosted a dinner for a baby shower for my daughter in their side room. Had 14 people with a catered menu of chicken limone, beef tenderloin, gnocchi, salad, roasted potatoes, and grilled vegetables for a very reasonable price. Hungry and unsure of what to get, I stumbled upon a Farmer’s Fridge vending machine and decided to give it a try. I chose the chicken Caesar salad, not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, the flavors were well-balanced, and it tasted far better than I anticipated. “Greetings my Foodzies, tonight we decided to try a restaurant that we have passed by numerous times. The great escape on Irving at 9540 w Irving Park rd. in Schiller Park.
This is a unique restaurant that has been around for years. The property has a rich history (see the picture I have posted with the story).
The restaurant’s bar area is very rustic with a bar that was hand carved in 1889, very impressive. TVs have been added to draw in a people who want to eat and have a drink while watching TV. Also a gaming section in the bar area.
Music is old school 50-60s, our server Mareen was pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable.
We started with Grilled Calamari it was grilled nicely but could have used a few more seconds to get a little more char flavor. It was also missing the signature balsamic. Glenda chose the Rigatoni in Vodka sauce with chicken; the chicken was scarce and the sauce was not the traditional sauce it had an odd flavor, not terrible but not what we expected. With a cup of lentil soup, tasty but needed a little extra salt. I chose the baby back ribs and broasted chicken (these dishes they are known for) the chicken was very good, crispy skin and very juicy. The ribs were tender but a little dry. The BBQ sauce was the recipe is the recipe of the owner’s grandfather. It was a Kansas City type sweet sauce with a nice smoky flavor (as a first time patron we were given a bottle to take home). I had the baked French onion soup topped with mozzarella, I’m used to Gruyere, Swiss, or Gouda but ut was very good.
