“This place is in general a really, really awesome place. The service is insanely swift, they get your food out real quick. The atmosphere is top notch, may not be the biggest but the decor and feel is just really cool. The food of course, is also next level. They have such a unique array of food, subs, bowls, shawarma, tacos, subs, gyros, and a bunch more. The food was really well made and fresh, and of course pretty tasty. Also had the pleasure of meeting the owner who was very welcoming and responsive to our needs. The lady who served us also had a cool personality and making sure we had everything we needed. “Tomate Fresh continues to be one of my favorite restaurants in Evanston. Considering prices and quality, few restaurants compare in my eyes. There's no in-house seating, but it's ready so fast and it's so delicious that there's no need to linger. (It's also across the street from a park for an easy picnic.) My favorite dishes include anything with their black beans and grilled cheese combination (not a grilled cheese sandwich, but just a glorious pile of crispy cheese). In either burrito, Taco, or gordita form, one can choose: tofu, black beans, sweet potato, yucca, spicy mushroom, or carmelized onion filling. There are also, on occasion, vegetarian empanadas and tamales. These veg options don't even consider the quesadilla options (like sweet potato or spicy mushroom) or the salads on their menu. It's a refreshing change from only having one or two veg options at a restaurant.“
“i recently moved to the area and was looking for mexican food, and so i decided to try this place from google maps. i ordered the steak burrito special with rice and beans for takeout, and it was delicious! the burrito was big and the steak was seasoned well. i was pleasantly surprised and excited to have found a great mexican place nearby. this has become my go-to, and i will definitely be back often!“
“The food is always excellent here but we had not been in in a while. Last time was outdoor weather on the roof so sitting downstairs in the dining room feels a little tight. Took a bit to get our order in but food came quickly - we were too hungry to photograph most of it. The lomo saltado was my favorite, the steak cooked very tender, not salty tasting, just pure beef. The pictured lamb chops also very nicely done. We liked the octopus tinga on tostada, the eggplant toasts (montadito), and some empanadas as well.Menu prices are a little high even with food inflation.“
“Great food with classic and robust flavors. Versatility on menu and ordering was easy and without resistance. Lots of fresh ingredients; tastes authentic because it is. Owned by a local Gkenciew resident who loved his heritage and culture that wants to bless his neighbors and community with incredible Cuban food. They also have a food truck too for private parties. Great spot for dine-in, carry out or delivery (check who does their delivery service.). I love their shrimp tacos also their fish tacos. Classic torts was so balanced and authentic. “Huge shout out to the manager Jamie! I had a slight issue with some food a few weeks back. Figured I would try again because I enjoyed the ambience and vibe so much. I called the restaurant and let Jamie know what happened with my last order. Without hesitation she replaced the order for me. When I came in the restaurant was busy and I saw Jamie doing table touches, while also bussing tables, and communicating with staff to ensure quick table transitions for waiting customers. Through all this she still made it a point to hand me my order personally with a smile. I've been in the restaurant industry for about a decade now and it's hard to find someone who radiates hospitality but she's got it... oh and the food hit the spot!“
