“Alter Brewing in St. Charles completely knocked it out of the park for our night out! From the second we walked in with our reservation and were seated at a fantastic high chair table, the whole experience was seamless. The atmosphere has such an energetic, welcoming vibe—the perfect backdrop for hanging out and catching up with friends.
The food was flat-out amazing. I ordered the Alter Burger with a few specific alterations, and the kitchen nailed every single detail; it came out cooked and customized to absolute perfection.
What truly elevated the entire evening, though, was our waiter. His service was nothing short of exceptional—incredibly attentive, warm, and helpful without ever hovering. He handled my burger request with total care. Outstanding food, vibrant ambiance, and genuinely top-tier hospitality. We can’t wait to come back!“

“Loved everything about our visit to Penrose Brewing. The beer selection was fantastic, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely enjoyable to chat with.
We stopped in while visiting family in town and were glad we did. I’m especially excited to hear they’re working on getting their beers into Iowa; I hope that happens soon because we’d love to enjoy Penrose back home. Looking forward to stopping by again on our next visit! 🍻

“The Favorite Beer of this beer enthusiast! This Beer Dad loves their IPA's and their Hazy's in particular. My kids love to hang out in the outdoor patio area, sit in their tents, and eat their McDonalds or Portillos.
That being said, YOUR KIDS BETTER BE WELL BEHAVED. This is not a place to have them run around and be little devils.“

“Food is delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming and chill. The staff is wonderfully friendly and accommodating. We were there with my 7 and 10 year old for dinner. My son has special needs and they were so great with him. At the end of the dinner when they could see I was struggling a bit with my son, one server came to me and said, “don’t worry mama, we got you.” So kind. Thank you Stockholms for being an amazing place. Highly recommend. Highly highly recommend.“

“A little disappointed tonight the burger was not as good as usual and service could have been better. Mostly they need to install acoustics way to noisy you can hardly hear or enjoy a conversation.“

“Went there for the first time yesterday and everything from the atmosphere to service was great 👍🏽 I got the octopus as an appetizer and the market fish stew and it was excellent. drinks were delicious as well. I'll be back.“

“Great food, but they have a limited of certain section on certain food. Most of all the liquor is beer, but does have cocktails and other drinks. I love the lights it gives a romantic outdoor feeling. I went with my friend and enjoyed it. I had a Pork sandwich and she had a Philly steak sandwich.“

“I find it a rare occurrence to walk into an establishment for the first time and feel so comfortable and welcomed that you just want to stay. That was our experience today. The bartenders were friendly and engaging in a way that felt like they were neighbors. And the patrons were nice and talkative. And the beer was good. They're doing it in all the right ways, it seems. It's a nice place to escape to from the busy town center. Highly recommend a visit!“
