“We biked here on Memorial Day from downtown Indy. I had hoped that there would still be a piece of the Mandarin cheesecake by Brotgarten left.
I was thoroughly disappointed when I found out that they had sold out earlier that morning. I talked with the owner for a few minutes about how we were from Detroit and only in town for the weekend.
As we were unlocking our bikes to continue on, the owner came out and gave us his piece of the cheesecake that he was going to take home.

“The day before my dad’s funeral, I went to the mall to buy a pair of black pants. There’s often something cathartic for me about the anonymity of the mall, of being surrounded by people all set on their own missions, none of whom are concerned about who you are or what you’re there for. Yet, I cried my way through that shopping trip, lonely and unmoored, trying to imagine a world without my dad. And then I stumbled into the Cafe.

I’d been once or twice before. I found myself at Keystone often in the months prior because my hairstylist was located in the salon suites across the way. But on this day, when no one else had seen me crying, and the anonymity of it all had begun to feel more like an anvil than a blessing, Miss Sonya saw me.

She remembered my order. She called it out the second I walked through the door, and met me at my table with a goat cheese panini and a carafe of Coke because she knew I’d want a refill. She spoke gently, familiarly, aware of my tenderness in a way that reminded me I wasn’t alone.

In that moment, I wasn’t invisible. My grief was shared. Maybe she’ll read this one day and know how much it meant to me. Maybe she won’t. But I guess what I’m saying is: Some people have their neighborhood pub or the quirky coffeeshop around the corner from their job. I have the Nordstrom Cafe. “The best cakes, like seriously, the BEST. Both locations are wonderful and have the kindest staff but tonight I happened to go to the Zionsville one. “I'm not usually a fan of Panera, but I do like this one. Panera as a company hasn't been doing super well recently, but I've found a few locations that manage well.

The food was surprisingly good. I ordered a bog-standard cold BLT. The first couple bites didn't impress me, but on the 3rd or 4th it really all came together. Delicious.

The employees are mostly friendly and chill, quick to greet and assist. There was one young man going around cleaning and helping customers every 10 minutes or so, which is great to see. They were also quick with refills and fixing any mistakes made.

The costs are pricey, but who honestly goes to a Panera for cheap fast food? Well, given the company silently switching to frozen breads and goods instead of fresh, I guess I proved myself wrong.

If you want some pretty good food for a decent price in a lax atmosphere that's perfect for hanging out with a buddy or friends for hours, then I can recommend this place. Don't expect anything mind-blowing, of course, but you can expect a fine time.“
