Although I've always appreciated Checkers, I rarely find myself here. Probably because I have to drive another mile from my house, hardly an inconvenience. So yesterday paid a visit there and was mentally jarred by the fact that I found a favorite sparkling water that's always in the refrigerator and a whopping $1 less per bottle than where I normally obtain it. Most of the food didn't look good in the case. I threw caution to the wind and ate here anyway, picking the best-looking items, but I had some misgivings about this meal that were so strong I didn't eat it all. I should have known what I was in for when I saw the wedges appeared to have been in the case for hours longer than they should have. Was hungry though, and now am not hungry. Three stars, but only just.

This is a great discount grocery with bulk goods and generics. They've also got name-brand stuff, which sets them apart from other discount grocers like Aldi where your only option is no-name items. Checkers has decent produce as well as a large butcher section. You're not going to find gourmet or fine dining selections here, but that's okay. The prices are great. Service is good. It's a warehouse atmosphere, I'm okay with that if it helps keep prices down.
