“Today we ventured down to Dicks on Main in tiny Carlisle, Kentucky. Population 2,627. The kind of town where the diner is the heartbeat of Main Street and where folks come looking for two things: a hot meal and the comfort of a warm cup of coffee. Walking in, you feel that rhythm right away. Locals crowding into booths, servers moving with easy confidence, and coffee pots making their endless rounds.
The lunch menu keeps it classic. Meat and sides or a sandwich. No confusion, no ten page menu, just honest choices. The daily special was salmon cakes, but I went with the country fried steak, mashed potatoes, and creamed peas, with a slice of butterscotch pie waiting on the horizon.
The open kitchen adds a feeling I really enjoy. Like being back home with family cooking, pans clattering, gravy bubbling, and someone always sliding a pie out of the oven. They are open seven days a week and judging by the lunch crowd it is one of the few places in town to gather for a meal.
Recent reviews match the experience. Wholesome food. Daily specials. Fresh baked pies. A welcoming vibe. Quick, attentive service where your coffee cup never has a chance to run low.
The country fried steak tasted exactly as a good home cooked one should. Tender inside, crisp outside, seasoned just right. The mashed potatoes were fluffy and buttery. And the creamed peas were perfect for me, smooth and warm and comforting. I have been blending mine at home lately with a little salt, cream, and butter. Nannette thinks I am nuts and prefers hers whole with just a light touch of salt, something about eating healthy she says.
But the real surprise was the brown gravy. Smooth, creamy, and carrying that unmistakable flavor of browned butter, the kind that tells you someone is taking time with a skillet instead of pouring from a packet. It tied the whole plate together.
And then there was the butterscotch pie. Sweet, old fashioned, silky, and made with the sort of care that only comes from repetition and pride.
If you find yourself anywhere near Carlisle, put Dicks on Main on your list. It is the kind of small town diner that reminds you why these places matter. Simple food, made with heart, served with a smile, and comforting in all the right ways.“

“We stopped for breakfast at the Mt. Sterling, KY CB….first time in a long while. We were very impressed with improvements in service and the taste/quality of the food. Also, the gift shop has some very nice clothing that wears well. So glad CB has stepped up its game and is giving good value in its offerings!“

“On Father's Day we were treated a bit rude during our service and I kept being polite hoping she change her puckered up lips to a smile. My husband is allegic to mushrooms and she was mad we asked for green peppers instead and made a rude comment to him about it. He felt that her rude to both of us. Then the one menu they gave me had BBQ sauce inside it from a previous customer. Clean them please! The potato salad was sour from the salad bar, my husband was sick from biting into it. So do you up charge for adding raspberry flavoring for the tea? To take out mushrooms for beef tips do you do additional charge for adding in green peppers? It was a special day, should just be swapped without upcharge I think for Dad's that day, especially her being rude from the beginning. Some people are allergic to mushrooms and the waitress should not make a negative comment to him about it saying she never heard anyone request that before to get a substitute and she needs to see if they could do that. Really you couldn't grill the beef tips , green peppers and onions together? My steak had NO seasoning, I used pepper and salt to flavor it up. It's supposed to have been seasoned. It's not my husband fault he is allergic to mushrooms. I regret taking him there on Father's Day as it got him in a bad mood from her service throughout our lunch on this day. Kindness and clean menus make a great welcoming impression. We kept it kind.“

“DO NOT eat here, they are infested with roaches and are aware but have not did anything about it. we ate dinner there tonight and halfway through my son and I saw tons crawling on the floor where they prepare the food. when I told an employee she first denied knowing then said she had saw them everywhere a the day before and she was "sorry we saw that." Disgusting and completely unsanitary, this place should not be serving food in these conditions still had to pay for uneaten food and they refused getting a manager.“
