Don't miss Belmont's top Mexican restaurants, as recommended by Restaurantji.
“Yes , this is the right place. A delicious hole in the wall Mexican shop hiding between service stations and commercial buildings. A hidden Waltham gem .. I almost wish it hadn't gotten noticed because the patron traffic is obviously higher now :)“
“So glad we found this place!! Love the kimchi fritas with bulgogi beef, reminds us of our favorite place in Houston. The tteokbokki was standard goodness (a biiiit spicy and no fishcakes) but the tempura-ish seaweed on top was SOOO good. And the chicken taco was delicious!! The owner was very nice and doesn't speak a lot of English.“
“We went to Angela's for brunch on a Saturday morning. It gets busy so it's best to come early. The food was great! We shared the shrimp ceviche and both had huevos rancheros. Which we enjoyed every bites of it all. We also had a coffee and an Agua de Jamaica. The staff were super friendly. The restaurant was clean and felt super cozy. We will definitely come by again!“
“Found this hidden gem on Instagram one day and the birria tacos served here looked insane so of course I had to try it! The restaurant is small but the staff are super sweet. You can try and walk in; however, the place does fill up quickly so try and get a reservation if you can! Started off with an order of guacamole and chips with some salsa and upon first glance it looks pretty regular. But the first bite of the guacamole and you can feel how smooth and zesty it's been made. The salsa was also delicious with some heat! For entrees ordered the Al pastor burrito and of course the birria tacos. The burrito was massive and a very interesting take on a burrito as it was crispy and seared well unlike most burritos which are usually quick soft and floppy. But no flops here. Pair each bite with the guac or salsa and it's perfect moving on to the star of the show, why I came here! The birria looks amazing. I loved how crispy the fried cheese was. Similar to the burrito, most birria taco spots make a wet and floppy taco, but no flops here!! The meat was super tender and you can tell it's been stewed inside the consume for hours maybe even days?! Each bite was better than the last.My only warning is due be mindful of how much consume you're consuming as it's a little salty and you might not notice it until after you've left the restaurant or even the next day.“
“Just were discussing best restaurants in town, this is by bar far one of the best ones in town. Food is authentic and the drinks are excellent. Great value, portion size and atmosphere for families. Only downside is their hours where we wish they were open more often!“
“A small to-go place, rather than a sit-in restaurant. The food is fresh and staff are friendly. I found a nice vibe in the (open) kitchen area, but there was something missing in the counter/waiting area. Can't tell exactly what it is, maybe the lighting is a bit dull or dark, or too much fluorescent-ish?Personally, I found the seasoning of meat (Carne Asada) was a bit toward salty side. Overall a nice place to grab a to-go menu if live nearby, but probably not worth driving 20+ mins just to try here.“
“Was in the mood for a burrito and for some odd reason somerville hasn’t been it for burritos as of late… so I decided to look around and found this spot. Idk how long they have been open but decided to give it a shot based of the reviews. I can honestly say it’s one of the best burritos I’ve had in a very long time. All the employees are super nice and friendly. All the ingredients and vegetables and meats that they use is all fresh. One thing I absolutely love is that they grill the burrito for you without asking and to me that makes the burrito 100x times better. Definitely will be a returning customer!!!P.S. don’t forget the Horchata!!!“
“Had a great night here our last night in Boston! Fantastic food. Definitely try the steak fajitas--tender and nuanced flavors! The drinks were even better! We had the Margarita Cosmica, Atomico, and Charro. And best of all was the attentive service. Marco, who designed the drinks clearly loves what he is doing and was so generous in sharing his knowledge.“
“Absolutely delicious and authentic style Mexican food. I had the TACOS BIRRIA my girlfriend had the tempura shrimp tacos. We are from NY and here staying at an Air BNB up the road , if we lived local we would be ordering from here at least once a week ! Highly recommend.“
“Not from the area, but we went to a coffee roasting event and the owner recommended checking out Moody St. My friends and I first saw Amuleto when driving too Moody St. We all like Mexican, so agreed to try it. This place did not disappoint. They seemed short-staffed at that moment, but they waiter managed just fine. Great food and drink selection and my friends are vegetarians and had no issues choosing their lunch or apps. Overall, the place is really nice inside and the food was great!I'm down in the New Bedford area and we have our fair share of great restaurants, but I would come back here again, with more friends.“
“Maria's Taqueria has very cost-effective and tasty tacos in a convenient location! Portion sizes are great as well. Would definitely consider getting tacos, taco salad and burritos from here and the best part is that it wont break the bank! The service is nice and quick. Atmosphere has room to grow.Food - 12/20Service - 6/10Atmosphere - 3/10“
“Phenomenal tacos. The highlights are the nachos, crispy fried tofu taco, and torta with crispy fried tofu. But you really can’t go wrong! My only recommendation would be to getter napkins for dine-in. Tacos are super messy and the napkins are thin and tiny.“
“Saturday was our first time and we loved the very delicious food, the portions and the excellent quality. I have been working in restaurants for more than 10 years and I am strict when it comes to cleanliness and quality, but here my expectations were met, the music to our liking. It was very high but otherwise everything was very good. I hope they don't change the service. The waitress was very attentive and had a good attitude, helping us understand the menu! We hope to return“
“Absolute gem. Chicharron / pork chile verde tacos to die for - everything was fresh, including the chips and guacamole. Bang for your buck all around, for example they do not skimp out on the guacamole. Will definitely return, and check out their tortas next time as well.“
“This is my favorite place to get Mexican food. Everything I’ve had is delicious, but my favorite is the carnitas bowl. I love that they have agua fresca! Achilitos is also a great option for vegetarians, vegans, and gluten-sensitive with everything clearly marked and lots of options.Vegetarian options: Lots of options for vegetarians and vegans!“
“Wonderful, fun Mexican restaurant with a relaxed, authentic atmosphere. I had the elote, birria burrito, and a taco, it was all delicious. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Even the walk to the restroom was great fun. Highly recommended.“
“Exceptional food, service and vibe! My friends and I went to Burro Bar for the first time on Sunday. The food was so tasty. It was well-seasoned, fresh and well proportioned. My favorite dishes include the shrimp tacos, nachos de la casa and the papas bravadas. To top off the food, the service was excellent and the music on point. Would highly recommend Burro Bar!“
“What a nice surprise! Brought my 3 year old grand niece for lunch on our way home from our adventure Toward that end we sat at the granite bar/counter. -helpful, efficient, friendly staff-delicious burritos and rice -perfect french fries-decorated prettily & practically -impeccably clean-reasonably priced Highly recommend this hidden jewel.“
“Tried El Jefe's for the first time with two of my friends on a Saturday night for a quick dinner before a Harvard hockey game. It was really good!! For a similar price compared to chipotle, this food felt like it had more character and flavor. The service was quick to order down the line and the restaurant was relatively clean for a busy Saturday night. One other thing I noticed for those who enjoy their hot sauces like myself, they had a million different choices. Every time I get food there I'll be trying different hot sauces to get the full effect!“
“Delishhhhh Mexican food. The inside was nice, and the furniture was made in Mexico. The salsa was good and spicy and the guacamole was standard. The nachos were probably the last nachos I've ever had they each had beans, cheese and chicken on them and a hefty amount and chip was still standing strong which is always a positive sign. The enchiladas tejanas was my favorite dish of the day. It was cheesy and delicious. The churros also had the good Dulce delicious inside of them and were crispy. Joe walked us through the menu and you can tell he's very passionate which is always awesome and our server was very sweet and attentive.“
“These are some of the nicest cocktails I have ever had, absolutely recommend the Mezcal. Get the pulpo and the plantains for a starter- they are out of this world. All flavors are insanely fresh, this place radiated high quality. Just go, you won’t regret anything you get.“
“New taqueria in Union Square with satisfying Mexican dishes. With so many Mexican spots in East Somerville, I initially perceived Picante as just another taqueria offering standard burritos, tacos, and quesadillas. I recently dropped by this place while walking my dog, and found the place empty during peak dinner hours. To my pleasant surprise, Picante offered special dishes like Carne Asada and Pollo Asado - both my go-to dishes at authentic Mexican restaurants.Since the restaurant looked like a standard counter-serve kitchen, I was surprised when they brought a huge slap of meat from downstairs and put it on the grill. It took quite a bit to get them prepared, but the wait was worth it. The chicken from Pollo Asado was exceptionally tender, complemented by a medley of fresh vegetable toppings. With the occasional coarse grain of salt, each bite was further enhanced by a delightful burst of salty umami. The Carne Asada, although slightly overcooked, remained a savory and enjoyable dish. With its subtle surprises and quality Mexican specialty plates, Picante is a place I would probably frequent more. The experience with their standard burritos and tacos may be a bit different, but these dishes are certainly worth trying.“
“Raucous family environment. Quick service and seating and food. Delicious meal, shrimp enchiladas with side rice and beans and a Hispanic coleslaw. The rice needed more flavor, but the coleslaw and enchiladas were a marvel.Vegetarian options: Some options. Pescatarianism provides a lot of flexibility.“
“This is my go to restaurant whenever I feel like eating healthy food outside. Huge fan of their sauteed shrimp and salmon criolla. Drinks and dessert menu are very creatively designed. The service is quick and prices are reasonable. I have always seen this place at least half full in the evenings. Very popular among local people (including me). Highly recommend- veg tamales and empanadas for appetizers.“
“I love how the owner Lorenzo sometimes goes back to visit CDMX then comes back inspired with new dishes on the menu. The additions of shrimp cocktail and birria are both delicious!Rincon also does classic Mexican dishes like tacos, quesadillas, and burritos really well. They have my favorite fish tacos and enchiladas in mole on East Broadway! We wind up doing takeout often, but they have a really fun ambience when we have time to dine in. The patio is lovely in the summer, and sometimes you run into surprise mariachi and karaoke!“
“Food is AMAZING. But, had some issues with the hostess that greeted my friend and I yesterday. Arrived a couple minutes before 2:30, hostess told us lunch was over but they had a limited snack menu. We were fine with that, so she then asks for my phone number... There were maybe 5 people in the entire restaurant, no idea why she needed my number. She said it was their "policy" and that it wasn't for marketing purposes -- it was just in case we left any belongings behind and they could contact us... right... So I asked if we could still be seated if I didn't provide my number and she said no. So we just sat at the bar and when we got to the bar, the bartender handed us a full lunch menu and she clarified that lunch actually closed at 3. :| This is the first time I had been to the Back Bay location, and honestly neither location has particularly friendly customer service.“
“One of the best vegetarian burrito options I've ever had – the tofu adobo is decadently sauced, the rice is very well seasoned, and the add-ons were delicious as they were abundant. Can't recommend highly enough!Vegetarian options: Their tofu adobo option for protein is amazing – from there you can customize the burrito of your dreams! They also have a number of sides that are veg-friendly.“
“I highly recommend this place for Mexican cuisine. Food was great! I got the combo #1 and it was delicious. The portion sizes are great! The enchilada was my favorite. The only thing I was not the biggest fan of was the tamale was okay, not enough pork in it and a little mushy. I ended up eating them along with my chips for the perfect crunch. The service is overall AMAZING!! They go above and beyond to make sure your dining experience is great. They are wonderful people. The ambiance was lovely. The decor and inside is beautiful! I love the tables and how they tile! I definitely recommend going here!“
“Yesterday, we had the Al Pastor and Birria tacos and both were delicious. The Birria came with jus for dipping and the hot sauce had a good flavor and some heat. All the staff were friendly and helpful when we were there. They have very reasonable prices and a good selection of Jarritos and other sodas. This will be a great addition to the south end and we will definitely be back!“
“Came here for the vegan options and was satisfied. Pleasantly surprised even. Love that they label the vegan items on the menu and that their refried beans are vegan. I got a bowl and my hubby got a burrito, and we left happy. ??Parking: Parking in the neighborhood is extremely limited. I recommend taking public transportation.“
“Very small space, but the decor is cute. There are only three tables, so not good for large parties. I recommend taking to-go. The bulgogi beef burrito is my favorite. The sauces are good, and it is filling. I haven’t been here in years, so I am not sure if the quality is the same.“
“Visiting from out of state and Santa Fe Burrito Grill is so good, we’ve had it twice for dinner. Their service is fast and their portions are generous for the prices you pay. Not to mention they’re delicious! Hands down some of the best tacos I’ve ever had. The churros are also incredible. ??“
“Go-to place on a night out or with guests. Staff is beyond hospitable and kind. Brings the old school corner bar vibes but with current drinks and food. Found this place after looking for tacos post living in TX and now it’s our favorite place to spend the night (or a boozy brunch). Start off with a classic marg and chips, then cruise through the bubbly mixed drinks. A Waking Up in Tijuana and churros cap off the night perfectly. Can’t say enough good things about this place and team.“
“The food was amazing. We couldn’t stop ordering more plates. The scallop appetizer was so refreshing and delicious! They also have a shrimp weekend special that was just packed full of flavor. My husband had the Birria taco dish and I had to fight him to a bite. The mezcal drinks were also done very well, we loved it. Before we left, the owner gave us two shots on the house because she knew we were from out of town. This was such a great dining experience, highly recommend!!“
“Awesome place for some Mexican food in Boston. When it comes to tortas in Boston, choices are pretty limited, so this was a nice fine. The chips and guacamole are nice, and the salsa isn't bad. The torta campechana was nice, though next time I think I'll try the tenoch instead. The torta was a great size, and was wrapped nicely (so, easy to eat). The inside of the restaurant is on the small side, so while you might find a place to sit, you might need to go somewhere else to eat.“
“Best place to eat real food. We mostly go there during lunch with coworkers and it never disappoints. Great food, everything is tasty, not super expensive (not cheap) and very warm and efficient service. Haven't tried any drinks though. Beef biria is top notch.Wheelchair accessibility: Smooth wide entrance“
“This makes our 4th visit to Lolita and will be the last. Our waiter got half our order wrong each time apps, drinks, entrees mostly because he didn't write anything down.10/10 service from the girl with all the tattoos and black hair at the front of the house. We accidently booked a table at the other location and the girls at the front told us to leave. The tattoo girl said no wait and was able to seat us. She is a Rockstar for how she handled it. The other girls would of cost lolita a $1,000 bill because we wouldn't of made the other location. Idiots. At Lolita You are paying for Nothing but the atmosphere. The food is below average. The margaritas are great. The vibe is millenial bowl eaters and the dj is way too loud for anyone that wants to talk accross a table. When they first opened the food was MUCH better. 7 people in our party and no one finished their entrees. Good chips though....Again 10/10 for the tattoo girl (forgot her name) up front that was able to seat us at 7pm on a Friday ehen the two dingbats told us we had to leave and they couldn't seat us. Lol.“
“A small little spot for a quick Mexican bite. Portions are good. I'd hoped my burrito came with some chips on the side like most other places do, but at least the burrito was filling. Had my burrito had just 15-20% more steak I would've given max stars. All in all still very good. I placed my order in English and my parents were able to place theirs in Spanish just as easily thanks to the bilingual staff. It's a small thing, but I appreciate it!“
“Best Mexican food around IMO! My daughter is always asking to go to Chipotle. Chipotle is like going to Taco Bell, when you could be going to a nice authentic restaurant. You definitely get more for your money at Felipe's too! It's a no-brainer. Burritos are so good! Give them a shot, I bet you'll be going back!“
“I came with my girlfriend to try some good Latin American food. I have to say, this place was exquisite. Very cute decor, good music, good vibes. The gentleman who served us was very nice and friendly, gave us good recommendations and advice on how to eat the food in an authentic way. The food was amazing, the flavours were incredible. We had the pupusas and the carne asada. They were both great. We don’t live in Boston, but we will definitely come back to this restaurant in the future if we ever come back to the city!!“
“Awesome restaurant! Vibes were very nice from the moment we walked in, with fancy mood lighting everywhere, even the bathrooms. Our server was Emre, and he was very attentive to our needs, and also very fun to talk to. Tara also came by our table to chat when I asked for a drink they were unfamiliar with (kolashampan soda) that I usually get to accompany my pupusas. She was also fun to talk with. The food was amazing, and I will definitely come back here next time I’m in the area.“
“SOooo much better than chipotle! Everything super flavorful & great portion sizes!! Today was my first time trying them, I’m from the south so we don’t have this particular brand at home. So glad I did try them, will definitely be my new go to! Service was super fast too.“
“So excited to welcome this new spot to the neighborhood. We dined in, and I was impressed by the food. Everything was flavorful and fresh. We ordered a pork burrito and quesadilla, yuca and plantains, an horchata and banana smoothie. I'd recommend all of them. Prices are totally reasonable, and I brought leftovers home. Service was a bit slow as they were filling online orders. Ambiance isn't special but fine. Will definitely be back.“
“My husband and I absolutely love this place! We’re visiting from San Diego, CA so we’re used to really good and authentic Mexican food and this was SO DELICIOUS!Not only was the food amazing, but we were treated like family. The service was outstanding! Pedro is such a friendly guy! My husband and I felt like we’ve known him for forever! We’re planning on moving to Boston in 2025 and we know we’ll be frequenting this spot!“
“Amazing food and great value!!! Such variety of delicious South American food in addition to Mexican food; had some great pupusas, pork rind, ceviche, and margaritas!! So flavorful and fresh! Also really spacious so would be great for a big group!“
“I’m from New York where the street food is excellent I was visiting and wanted something other than American faire and Maria’s did not disappoint! The pupusas were hot, the steak is seasoned perfectly the fajitas made my mouth water. There is a a great selection of food and the staff is so nice. There are only three tables so to go it the ideal way to eat but I was lucky enough to be able to eat in I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.“
“We stopped by here because everything around us was closed at 10PM. The drinks and food were awesome. They have a big selection of cocktails you would never think of trying. Their deviled eggs were so good and the bratwurst sausage was delish. Service was really great. Everyone is extremely nice and welcoming. We came back for a second round the next day!“
“Came in for a quick dessert since I saw they had churros on the menu! I thought it was a good deal ($4.5 for two). It came with a sauce and they were filled with a sweet cream. Will definitely come back to try their other food. Seemed like a nice family-run local business!“
“fantastic food and service, speedy ordering process, and friendly staff! you can't ask for a better experience. there are sooo many options to choose from and everything is fresh and delicious. i got the torta and was so happy to find out that you can add plantains as a topping! that and everything is very affordable. perfect for our group, as we had a timed museum exhibit to get to at the mfa. all around, i would highly recommend mamacita!“
“This place is mostly takeout, not dine-in. We tried to dine in anyway because there were tables and we were ready to eat. The food comes quickly as most TexMex choices share the same building blocks -- and thus the food was mostly already prepared when we ordered. The food was tasty, but not as good as TexMex in Texas.“
