“My husband (who is vegan) and I were in the Boston/Cambridge area for work and selected Base Crave for our first meal out. We met two people from his job and noticed that the place was empty except for us and the staff. That worried me, but after eating, my only thought was “people need to eat here! They don’t know what they’re missing!” The 4 of us ordered vegetarian mo mo (omg - yum!), vegetable samosas, chicken tikka masala (I didn’t try it but was told it was good), Tofu Mushroom stir-fry chilies mild which was okay, probably because we got it mild, Plantain curry (my hubby says fabulous!), plain naan (very good), and the Mushroom Stir-fry Noodles, mild. My husband and I agreed that the best things on the table were the Mo mo and the stir-fry noodles, both had fabulous flavor! We definitely recommend this place and would love to eat there again!“

“I’m honestly glad that I waited to post my original review with a lower rating and thought through the experience a little bit more. As always, I find it a bit harder to review fusion spots. Not just any fusion either, but one that is all over the world map. It’s easy to just nitpick one dish and use it to judge everything else; but what about that is remotely fair?

For example, their Beef Rendang (a dish that I’m very familiar with - including the different regional renditions) is more like a hint towards what “real” Beef Rendang is. I don’t even need to speak on behalf of the Filipinos regarding their adobo (which I also grew up on) who are infamous to show up on public forums to criticize and say “that’s not how my grandmother makes it” (lol).

What did come to mind is the old quote that many often find negative but actually was meant to be a positive phrase (if the last part isn’t so often omitted). “Jack of all trades, master of none, though often times better than a master of one”.

That definitely applies here with their style of food. There’s a lot going on and a good portal to the true potential of each dish. Definitely give them a try! Portions are good and the food is definitely tasty!“

Bon Me seems to sprout up wherever new office spaces do around Boston and Cambridge, so it’s no surprise they’ve planted a new location in Cambridge Crossing. For years, lunch options here were mostly limited to Tatte and Cafe Beatrice, so it’s refreshing to see a fast-casual Asian fusion spot join the mix. Serving a blend of Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese dishes, Bon Me offers a healthier alternative to chains like Panda Express, though it doesn’t quite hit the same quality notes as your go-to neighborhood Asian restaurants.

For me, one of the best perks of Bon Me is walking away with a meal that’s big enough to tackle both lunch and dinner and pairing it with one of their refreshing tea or boba drinks. The K-Town Throwdown rice bowl with Gochujang Chicken didn’t quite knock it out of the park, with the bottom layer of rice swimming in sesame oil and the chicken a bit on the dry side. But thanks to the Kimchi and scallion jam, it was still decent. The Fried Rice was better—especially if you throw in some karaage chicken. The crispy crunch beats the regular grilled chicken hands down.

Their ramen was also solid. Not exactly traditional, but for a quick-serve fusion bowl, it slurped up pretty well. The miso kimchi ramen, in particular, brought the mix of Korean and Japanese flavors in all the right ways.“

We had the 9 course option and not knowing what would be coming next just added to the adventurous feeling. They were well timed to come out just as we were finishing the previous one. The food was aromatic and fresh and innovative. All the servers were professional and pleasant. “My partner and I came here on Valentine’s Day with pretty high expectations based on the great reviews and how new/trendy it looked. While the food and service overall were good, there is plenty of room for improvement. The menu is pretty small and limited which I was not expecting based on it being an Asian fusion place. We ordered the Pork Egg Rolls, Shishito Peppers, Pork Gyoza Dumplings, Garlic Edamame, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Chef’s House Fried Rice to share. When we gave the order, our waitress said those were amazing choices and we wouldn’t be disappointed. The pork egg rolls were solid, nothing special and lacking flavor in my opinion. Especially for the price, I wouldn’t order them again. The shishito peppers were good, with a nice salty citrusy flavor, but no dipping sauce. I would recommend them. The pork gyoza dumplings were similar to the egg rolls in that they were solid but lacked flavor. I felt like I could make better ones at home, no sauce with these either other than the sauce on top. The edamame was very disappointing. I am not picky at all, but they were overcooked and soggy, and completely wet from the sauce. They were literally hard to eat because when you put them in your mouth they fall apart and you can’t separate the beans from the shell, causing you to have to pull out the shell from your mouth. Not pleasant. We ate some but gave up on finishing them. DO NOT RECOMMEND. The spicy tuna roll was OUTSTANDING. We eat a lot of sushi and we HIGHLY recommend the tuna roll. The pork fried rice was good, a lot of ingredients which I liked but it also could have used more flavor. It felt like it was missing something. It also weirdly came with a sauce which was good, but why do you need sauce for fried rice? For drinks we ordered the Japanese sour (solid), the lychee mojito (good), the yuzu martini (I loved it, my partner was meh) and the valentine drink special which was also good. The service was good, the waitress checked in on us like 5 times while our food was coming out but then when we actually wanted to order the second drink round, it took her a while to come back. The water-filler-upper was on his game, filling up our water the second it got halfway empty 😂. They gave us chocolate covered strawberries on the house for Valentine’s Day which was nice. I wish they had more sushi options, as I would like to come back to try those and the other items on the menu we didn’t order. Also, the vibe was great. The interior is very cool!“

Even single person get treated nicely, which is very good. However it is not friendly for vegetarians, due to the lack of clear indication in their food selection area (some of them might seem to be vegetarian while contain animal products) so be careful.“

“This restaurant is dope. The interior is warm and inviting. It’s modern and chic. Definitely an elevated hipster vibe. A chill spot to hang out after work or nice date night. The food is bomb! For apps, I’ve never had a Chinese-inspired arancini. These crispy delights are addicting with their crack sauce. The sauce is a must have on the arancini. The salad is light and refreshing. The Kokoda is a well made dish. I never had blue fin tuna until I came here. The combo with the fresh fish with the acidity from the lemon juice and smooth finish of coconut sauce - oof, worth a try. There’s also another surprise about the Kokoda - there’s something called sea grapes 🍇 and were bursting of flavor and freshness. A nice addition to the dish. I could go for seconds with the Kokoda because it’s a bit small for me. I wish they made it 2x bigger so it could be more shareable with a date or with company. The Maine Uni was surprisingly delicious 😋. I honestly thought it was too expensive but after having it, it was an amazing amuse bouche (the perfect bite). I couldn’t believe that small bite packed so much flavor and complexity. It was balanced and left me feeling happy. Totally worth it. For mains, the pork belly adobo melts in your mouth. So good! The mushroom raviolis are my favorite out of this menu. The salted duck egg sauce is what makes this dish memorable. I would definitely eat this again. The bitter melon ratatouille is not my favorite because it wasn’t seasoned enough for me. It felt as though it was missing salt. The veggies were perfectly roasted though, but it didn’t quite smack like the other dishes. The ribeye is good, but not my favorite. I might be biased because I’ve had better at other places. For desserts, the pandan sorbet is tasty. I’m not a fan of the pandan taste. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but I enjoyed it because I love avocados and bananas and in ice cream form? No brainer. I wished they had a version without the pandan flavoring. I’m curious as to how it would taste then. The matcha cheesecake is surprisingly well-balanced. Not too matcha where it’s overbearing. The matcha is subtle while the richness of the cheesecake smacks just right and not overly sugary. The late night menu - I only tried the Chicharrón taco 🌮. The combo of crispy pork belly and the acidity from the lime is perf. Nothing else to say. Surprisingly really filling. I probably can’t have more than 2 of these tacos and I’m a pretty big guy. The drinks - I love the names and how they have a play on words. The blood orange and the banana espresso are my favorite. These drinks have enough booze and not too much where it’s offensive. Blood orange is enjoyable to drink and the banana espresso is complex with a chocolate finish. Their nice, clean cocktails. Service was awesome! The servers were friendly and quick. They regularly checked in with my wife and me. I don’t think I even had to do the awkward “please help us” lean at all. They were there when you needed them! Amazing 5 star service!
