It was a massive mistake - my wife and I thought we would 'give it a try' and I am kicking myself for all the times we drove into DC from Silver Spring looking for a fun place to eat! From the moment we met Aidan Rinehart the GM, until we received and paid the check, we were blown away by the vibey atmosphere, the speed of delivery and the great tasting and well presented food. Alyssa, our server, deserves a special mention for her knowledge of the products, her attentive but unobtrusive service and exceptional friendliness. She is an absolute asset to Zinnia and we hope that she'll be there for as long as we patronise ZInnia, and it is well worth patronising. “Celebrated my birthday at Empress Coffee & Cocktails with my girls, and it was everything! The food and drinks were incredible -- we tried so many dishes and loved every bite. The Persian pizza (a house favorite) was full of flavor, the soup and grilled cheese combo was pure comfort, and the turkey + havarti sandwich, bacon egg croissant, and margarita pizza were all delicious and perfectly done. The drinks? Just wow. The espresso martini is an absolute yes! We also loved the butterfly margarita, lava-shak martini, and Malibu sunset -- all beautifully crafted and fun to sip. Plus, they offer a nice selection of wines and juices to purchase. Shots were order as well. Had too much fun didn't take pictures of all the food and drinks. The space itself is perfect for a girls' day or night out -- stylish and cozy with beautiful lighting and thoughtful décor. We especially loved the artwork of the girl with the pearl earrings -- such a fun and elegant touch! We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves, which made the whole evening feel extra special. Huge shoutout to Sam, the owner, who was such a warm and welcoming host. Highly recommend this gem for a celebration or a chill hangout. Can't wait to go back!“

“A place I visit regularly, about once a month.

Among nearby sushi spots, this is the best place for nigiri. The balance between the sushi rice and the fish is excellent..the thickness and aging of the fish pair perfectly with the rice portion.

I often order the sashimi platter as well, which is always generous in portion. The udon and tempura are also great additions to enjoy alongside the sashimi.

There are just two areas that could be improved. First, using fresh wasabi would better match both the quality and the price point. Second, the front-of-house service could use more attention...each visit, we tend to be left waiting for a while upon arrival, which is a bit disappointing.“

“We dined as a family of five on a Friday evening. The atmosphere was spectacular while sitting on the patio overlooking the beautiful grounds. Our meal started with wings and soup. The wings were the perfect level of crispness with bold flavor. We also ordered the new tomato soup and that was rich, warm, creamy and deliciously we would definitely order it again. When our entree’s arrived we were left disappointed. I ordered the 8 oz filet with fries, and two spices, Gael I butter and brandy pepper corn. The filet was drowned in what I can only describe as McCormick’s Montreal Steak Seasoning. I am a purist and believe a fine cut of steak only needs salt and pepper. I could only make it half way through my steak because of the tremendous amount of salt. I was disappointed that it was a house blend of spices especially with a chef in the kitchen. The steak sauces while had a great flavor were over powered by the extreme seasonings and were severed cold and mildly gelatinous. My husband got the steak and seafood trio. He raved about the lobster ravioli however his steak was full of gristle and not very edible. We ended our meal with a crème brûlée. The custard was missing the bold vanilla flavor and was pretty bland. The sugar crust was crop and perfect. The cocktails were made fresh and delicious however when the check arrived we realized that we were charged full price instead of the happy hour pricing. Overall, the appetizers and cocktails were delicious and the atmosphere can’t be beat. We are hoping we just came on an off night for the chef. We hope to come back to try it again. We can certainly see the potential.“
