“Once again, I continue to be impressed with the quality of the food and service. Whenever family or friends come to visit, we always take them here to eat. There is always a steady flow of people, but I have never not been able to get a table (limited seating). Even in the Maryland crab "offseason" everything is fresh and delicious. My family recently placed a large takeout order on Christmas Eve for brunch, and they had everything ready in record speed and all the food was hot and delicious. They even have a loyalty program to earn rewards as you visit. We have recently been going to breakfast on the weekends and the sweet potato pancakes are to die for. My husband gets the grabs Benedict and loves it as well. Haven't had a bad meal here!“
“The hibachi chef was very kind. He noticed that our youngest was a little skittish about the fire at the beginning. Kept the kids engaged the whole time and they even tried several different kinds of food and enjoyed most of it. A very great experience for us and we'll definitely be back.“
“Came here while visiting family over the Thanksgiving holiday and I was in search of crab legs. The place is in a busy strip mall and the decor is dark and outdated, but the bar area seemed to be filled with regulars having a good time and it was a large place with ample seating. We were seated quickly and the service was great. To start off, We had a mixed drink that was very tasty (the sneaky dragon) and the fried rockfish bites which we enjoyed. The seafood platter was delicious! Hot and fresh. The crab ball was so good, loved the shrimp, too. But the Old Bay fries were amazinggggg I could have eaten a million of them. The only thing on the platter that we didn't like as much was the fried scallop. The breading fell off because it was wet and it was very chewy/rubbery. The snow crab was amazing and I finally got my steamed crab leg fix on this trip!“
“Popped into Captain Leonard's last weekend. We were kindly greeted and seated right away. Our order was taken very fast with no wait time. My daughter and I opted for snow crab legs and the hush puppy, mozzarella sticks, fried green beans appetizer. The food was nice and hot and delicious. Our waitress was amazing and everyone there was so accommodating and friendly. They're closing down for the winter but will reopen on April 3rd 2024. I cannot wait for them to reopen. This is my go to destination for the best crab in town!“
“We came last week and had a fabulous meal. We called prior to coming and they were so nice over the phone and held a table for us while we headed there. We really appreciated this and will be frequent customers! Highly recommend this restaurant.“
“This is a nice little, off the beaten path, place to get some good seafood in Maryland fashion. The building is rustic and more practical than esthetically pleasing, but it's right on the water with views of the Benedict Bridge. I enjoyed a good lunch here last Friday with one of my best friends. The fried mushrooms are a tasty appetizer, and the crab soup is very creamy with lots of crab meat. Per our request, they sprinkled some Old Bay seasoning on top. We lingered over some tasty coffee after we ate so we could enjoy the view and catch up with each other's lives. We were allowed to relax and not feel pressured to leave. It's a very calm atmosphere. If you want a good place to unwind and take in the view, over some simple, but tasty food, I'd recommend it highly.“
“Right on the water, with delicious crabs and other seafood pleasantries. Sandgates has always been my family’s favorite summer spot, especially so we can enjoy some crabs! We keep coming back year after year. An old building with that classic Southern Maryland charm.“
“Great place overlooking the water. No tourist trap here - this is the real deal. only complaint is that my crabs were served about 20 minutes after everyone else's entrees. but despite that, I would definitely recommend.Kid-friendliness: great kids menu“
“First time visiting this establishment and I was pleasantly impressed. We went on a Friday evening and had about a 30min wait but it was worth it. The decor has these cute cartoon pictures all around. It is pretty small restaurant but they manage to give just enough room between tables to be comfortable while dining. The service was great and our waitress was very friendly. The cream of crab soup is wonderful! It was creamy, thick and flavorful and plenty of crab meat. Highly recommend trying this. The. Crab fries were a little disappointing because we thought it would be more of a crab sauce mixture or dip mixture on the fries. Instead it was like just a yellow cheese and no seasoning really. But it was plenty of fries and crab meat. Not sure we would get that again. The Chesapeake chicken sandwich was ok as well. The chicken was pretty good but again the crab dip was more of like just cheese sauce. My daughter didn’t care for it but my husband did eat his but wasn’t impressed. My other teen got tenders and fries and said they were really good. I got the medium crab cake meal. My crab cake was excellent and nothing but meat. I really enjoyed it. The kale and baked potato was good as well.Overall good food and service. I will definitely try them again.“
