“The Whaler in Old Orchard Beach ⛱ Maine. First let me just say I really like this bar. Its got 3 fish tanks in it. Imagine a bar with fish tanks? There are two billiards 🎱 tables placed in a cool way. They have live music frequently at night. The bar has a whale theme from the pictures, carvings, and overall theme. Its really a cool sight. The bar is the closest to the Amtrak platform in OOB. It makes it my last stop after visiting. This is one of the few Bar locations that is open year round around The Pier in OOB. Its across the street from the platform. I take the train a lot and will be visiting when the tourist season slows down. Its a fun historic place to settle into.“

“The owner/bartender makes the best cocktails I've had in Maine. His drinks are super balanced, authentic and presented well with a focus on early 20th century classics. The environment offers the best ambiance around with a lounge, outdoor deck and a ton of "vintage" game systems to play with. I would tell more people about it, but I'm afraid once word gets out there will be a line to get in and a cover charge. 10/10“

“It was a busy Wednesday night in OOB and lots of places had very long waits. We took our chances on Myst and they were able to seat our group of 7 on the deck within 5 minutes although they were busy too. The service was excellent, we had Kaitlyn (sorry if I’m spelling that wrong) who was very attentive, the food came quickly and was absolutely delicious. We have eaten at a few local spots and this was so far the best.“

“Best part: If you squeeze in between the desk and chair, you can sit on the floor right next to the (floor to ceiling) window, and it's like sitting on the edge of a cliff looking out over the Turnpike. The noise level is well-controlled, and it's quite peaceful looking at cars and trucks roll by from six stories high. Needs to be high room on the back of the West tower for this effect. Quietest a/c / air system in any hotel I've stayed in, and the controls were pretty legible. Bed was comfy and slept well. Some mystery spots on the coverlet. If you're a DIY type, take along a scraper and some paint and you can fix the peeling paint in the bathroom. Stay away from the breakfast, if you're not used to a mass-market diet, either way you'll do just as well at McDonald's. 'Fridge is useful if you want to lightly freeze things. If you want the good ol' days of a freshly-made bed every day, get on it immediately. We waited til day 3, and despite obediently ordering 24 hrs in advance, chaos still ruled when we returned at 6 pm. The same fellow running check-in eventually arrived with a few towels; we decided he was probably running the whole place on his own that night.“

“ordered the whole clam belly basket today...was no bellies. actually looked lime mixture of calamari rings and very thin strips of clams..asked waitresses if I was given clam strips buy mistake she went to ask someone became back and said the calm bellies were just small...ummm... “How could anybody complain when we’ve just been through a pandemic - We’ve been through a shutdown, many thousands of people have died, schools closed & kids had to learn from home (and then had hybrid learning), many businesses folded & people lost their jobs, the job market changed & people worked from home - Prices went up considerably which made it much harder for some people to get by & many could not make it - I feel that it is remarkable that The River Tap & Grill has done as well as any restaurant out there - Kudos to the owners, the staff & to all the others who have made this possible -“

“If you’re looking for a hidden gem in Old Orchard Beach, slightly away from the pier, The Gally is your spot.

It definitely has those classic dive-bar vibes, but with really good pizza, a fun atmosphere, and awesome staff. Honestly, this is probably low-key my favorite bar in Old Orchard Beach.

I almost didn’t want to write this review because I kind of like keeping it a secret. But the staff were fantastic. I believe our server’s name was Kelsey, and she was terrific she really made the whole experience even better.

And the pizza? Probably the best pizza in Old Orchard Beach.🍕

No frills. No pretension. Just good pizza, great service, a fun location, and the right kind of dive-bar atmosphere.

“Fried chicken burger and hamburger where delicious. Our server was sweet but running around ragged. We had to wait quite a bit for everything. Live music was good. The outside chairs were a bit uncomfortable but the atmosphere made up for it.“

We had gone to another(big)place in the area the night before and we were very disappointed . Luckily we found the Salty Bay! today!
