Dated decor and too expensive. The food was average. I would recommend one of the other hotels on the island or in Mackinaw City. The porch view was good, however.
My cousin got married August 9, 2025 and stayed at the Grand Hotel for their honeymoon. We arranged directly via phone with the hotel for the newlyweds to have something to enjoy as soon as they arrived on August 11 as well as a souvenir commemorating their stay. My cousin texted thank you when they got to their room however we learned NOTHING we paid for was correct. Over the next few days we made multiple calls to the hotel to request they correct their mistake. Each time we...read full review
We very much enjoyed our time at The Grand Hotel. The front porch was amazing for afternoon drinks and relaxing. Shout out to James Tan, our absolute favorite server! We stayed at The Grand with friends for a week! We enjoyed meals at the Jockey Club and loved The Woods!! The staff was mostly attentive, I think the concierge team could do a bit better at being nice. The only complaint I have is dinner in the main dining room. The Grand Hotel Main Dining Room offers a lunch buffet with a wide variety of foods, including a delicious whitefish and caprese skewer. The food choices and selection are excellent, and many customers find the food to be outstanding. The extensive breakfast buffet features items like croissants, pastries, and cinnamon sticky buns, with friendly attentive service where coffee is never empty. Drinks are included with the buffet, and additional beverages are available for an extra cost. The room can get crowded, and there may be some rude customers. Some dishes, such as meat like lamb chops and porcetta, are well-seasoned and excellent, while others like soups and salads may taste pre-made or lack freshness. Side dishes like rice and farro can be overcooked and mushy. Desserts are generally okay, with a good pecan ball but dense, tasteless bread pudding. The service is friendly and attentive, though some guests felt the experience lacked character and felt more like a cafeteria. Overall, the atmosphere is breathtaking with sunlight flooding the room, but high prices and slow service may not appeal to everyone. Still, many appreciate the extensive food options and the unique taste of Michigan history.
