His prices are extremely affordable, a large menu from which to choose from and he provides excellent service to you either as you wait or for carryout.

He is very friendly and I've noticed, while waiting for my food to be prepared, that he has many repeat customers (besides myself) with whom he greets warmly.“

“I do not review unless something is exceptional or frankly terrible, and Hiroki-San has officially made us terribly spoiled. My husband and I have gone there 3 times now in a row as it’s not worth spending our money anywhere else. I have traveled all over the world, including Japan and the quality of fish cannot be beat at this place as far as Midwest goes. The only spots that come close are located in Chicago. The care that is placed in each dish is obvious and intentional. The ambiance is perfectly romantic and intimate without being too stuffy. I love whoever makes their playlist because the vibes are always there. The staff are lovely and our server Claire was incredibly sweet and attentive. If you love nigiri, you won’t be disappointed. The black cod yakitori was the best we’ve ever had and the drinks are always stellar (including their plum wine). Is it expensive? Yes. Worth every penny? Absolutely. Just get some yakitori, a hot plate or two, and some nigiri and enjoy the flavor-gasm. We live to eat, and this place checks all our boxes.“

“wow, today was my first time here and it was so good! i’d been curious about this place for awhile and finally came here with my BF. the bowls are very customizable, and if you don’t know exactly what to get, there is a few options of specific bowls with pre decided ingredients. it was $37 for me and my bf, which is a little pricy, but the serving was enough for two meals so it was worth it. honestly i wouldn’t mind if there was a smaller option especially since this type of food doesn’t last very long! i’ll definitely be coming back, but ill make sure to have an empty stomach beforehand,“

“Had an early dinner reservation with a friend who had never been to 220 Merrill before. It was a quieter time, right before the dinner rush, and we were able to catch up without any large parties or excessive noise. We both ordered the salmon, which was some of the best fish I've ever had. Perfectly cooked to medium, crispy on the outside, and it came with a sauce that perfectly complimented the potatoes and broccolini. Our server was Shannon, and he made sure we had everything we needed and also gave us the space to enjoy our dining experience. Every time we took a sip of water, there was another server going around, making sure our glasses were always full. I'm glad I could show my friend a new place, and we both agreed that we would be coming back so she could experience what it's like at night.“

“Very standard vegetarian bowl. Disappointing size for $16. It's exactly what you expect, nothing more and nothing less. The worker was efficient. Definitely more of a take out place but I could imagine it's busier around lunch time.

“I came in at what seemed to be a slower time. I was taken care of right away. Our server was great. I ordered Agedashi Tofu, and the house salad. My daughter ordered Chicken Teriyaki, we both got miso soup- which was not included in her meal which I thought was weird. Everywhere else I go it comes with. The soup was pretty bland, and was $6 each. Daughter liked her chicken teriyaki. I enjoyed my tofu. The salad was good, but I’ve never paid $8 for a little side salad before. All in all we had a pleasurable experience and liked the food. But I will likely not be back, I have many other spots that are more affordable.“

“I came to Umai Café in Troy for my birthday because I really wanted to try their soufflé pancakes — and they did not disappoint! They were light, fluffy, and absolutely delicious. We also tried the sando, which was just as good — flavorful and satisfying.

The café itself has such a cozy, welcoming vibe, and the staff were very kind. The only small hiccup was that the posted hours said they open at 11:30, but they didn’t open until 12:00, so keep that in mind if you’re planning an early visit.

Overall, it was a wonderful birthday treat, and I’ll definitely be back to try more from their menu!“
