11 Best Wineries in Traverse City

Brengman Brothers Wine Bar • $$
9720 S Center Hwy, Traverse City

“We had a great stay at Brengman Brothers Winery which is located just West of Grand Traverse Bay, North of Traverse City. We were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to be hosted by Brengman Brothers through Harvest Host. The winery and tasting room is situated on a hill overlooking the orchards. The facility was beautiful and offered indoor and outdoor seating options. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We shared a charcuterie board and tasted their wine which was excellent. My wife enjoyed the Chardonnay. We spent the night in the orchards in our RV. The climb to the top of the hill overlooking he orchards was fairly simple and we had a picnic table and fire ring. The sunrise over the orchard was magnificent. Thanks again to Brengman Brothers for the great hospitality.“

Peninsula Cellars Winery • $$
11480 Center Rd, Traverse City

“This was our first stop of the day and we will definitely be back! David was so sweet, helpful, and talkative (not to mention very generous with samples)! The former schoolhouse was a hit with our group of three teachers! Is so adorable. I have seen the wine in some major retailers in metro Detroit so, to be honest, I didn't have the highest hopes for the quality. I was happily proven wrong! It was our favorite stop of the day- due to both the amazing customer service and the absolutely delicious ciders. We had so much fun we lost track of time and were late for our reservation up the road. The option to make your own 6 pack is like putting a kid in a candy store. We left with three 6 packs, 3 separate cans, two bottles of wine, and 2 prowlers of root beer. Most of this, however, would not have been purchased if David wasn't there. I dare say we have a new favorite place for ciders.“

Hawthorne Vineyards Wineries • $$
1000 Camino Maria Dr, Traverse City

“Hawthorne Vineyards was the last stop late in a long day of wine tasting on the Mission Peninsula. Thank goodness we made the stop, since it turned out to be the best one by far. While a bit off the beaten path, you’ll find Hawthorne to be a charming and peaceful setting that will make you want to stay and relax for some time. Their wines were delicious, the selection of wines was terrific, and cost wise it was the most reasonable of all the tastings we did. But the best part of the stop was our host Lauri, who was extremely engaging, personable, and very knowledgeable about the wines she was serving. We’re so glad we stopped, and will not hesitate to return next time we’re in the area.“

The Barrel Room Winery •
1400 Yellow Dr, Traverse City

“Very cool spot. Great relaxing and real open mic night supporting local talent in a safe place. The only thing I have to say that's negative is that the barrel board is okay and I wished it was better for the price. Everything else was awesome including the staff. We didn't try any of the other food choices, I'm sure there's some solid stuff on there.“

“People kept asking if we had been there in our many stays around Leelanau. Tried it and were happy we did! It's a nicer place. Actually good Michigan wine. Similar spectacular view as Brys Estate. Didn't have the drunken bus tour people. Dog friendly!“

Chateau Grand Traverse Wineries • $$

“We did the winter flight pass in Old Mission Peninsula and visited 9 of the 10 wineries on the list. This was our absolute favorite! It's fairly clear why they are in many major retailers, plus the price is beyond reasonable. Our new favorite MI made wine.“

“Brandon was phenomenal. It unexpectedly started raining while we were sitting on the patio. He gathered up every umbrella that had been left behind & brought them out to us. He even came out & asked if we wanted a group photo at one point. The cherry soda was delicious.“

Mari Vineyards Winery • $$
8175 Center Rd, Traverse City

“Went for a private tour with my wife for our 17th anniversary and had a spectacular time. The wine was exceptional and our tour guide Renee was simply amazing. Her passion for the wines made the experience so much better than when some tours sound like the tour guide is reading from a script. I highly recommend.“

Bonobo Winery Wineries • $$
12011 Center Rd, Traverse City

“My wife and I were heading back from our day trip through the Old Mission Peninsula wine trail when we had to make a special stop at Bonobo. We found out from the girl at the bar that we had just missed Carter by a couple hours but nonetheless we enjoyed our glasses of Merlot and Riesling with our complimentary glasses. The atmosphere inside was very warm and welcoming. We'll definitely be back in the summer/fall when the outside patio will be open back up!“
