“1st - the atmosphere and decor are spot on. It 100% reminds me of getting BBQ back home.
When it comes to the food - it was good but not what I describe as Texas bbq. The sides are not your traditional Texas bbq fare - so I chose what seemed to be ranch potato salad and a cold corn salad of some sort. The potato salad was good - the potatoes were soft and it was creamy, the corn was also good- it had more of a TexMex feel.
For the pulled pork - the flavor was good - the smoke flavor is natural, which I appreciate bc so many places use liquid smoke, which I don’t like. However it was dry, and the bbq sauce was thin and leaned more toward a spiced ketchup taste rather than bbq sauce.
Overall, if you’re just looking for some standard bbq, it’s a good place to stop by but it’s not going to satisfy your craving if you’re a Texas boy or girl looking for a taste of home.“

“We had Old Southern Bbq cater for our wedding and it was absolutely an amazingly positive experience! The director of catering, Amy, was so helpful and on top of everything. The catering team was absolutely wonderful! All of our guests ranted and raved about the food all night, especially the potato salad and the cornbread muffin tops. Would definitely recommend!“

“have been to ted's a few times and they have been a great last minute spot to pick up lunch / dinner
staff is very friendly and always quick with orders never have to wait no more than 10 mins
i always get the full slab of pork or beef ribs (in the photo its the pork slab) and side of large jojo's (soo yummy i love the potatoes, you can get them covered in sauce or ask for the sauce on the side for more control)
i just wanted to post my review to squash the recent negative ones, i paid $36 and i think the ribs were pretty dang meaty, and the flavor was amazing very tangy smokey and delicious!
they are a local gem in my opinion“

“I've been going this place for a few years now and they never disappoint the food's good the service is excellent they don't take all day to make your food and they give you a drink as well definitely spend your time going down to Minneapolis to check out this restaurant just because it's on the South Side it doesn't mean you're going to get shot or ride is it going to have it to you it's actually a place of peace and people try to come back together after the history of that area“

“Food always hits here. The Turkey tips are my favorite, juicy turkey bits and bbq sauce on a bed of crispy fries. I’ve also tried the Turkey dogs, tacos, lasagna, turkey burger, and Turkey legs. Everything is a slam dunk!!“

“Smokestack Express is hands-down one of the best BBQ experiences I’ve ever had. The smoked brisket was truly the best I’ve had in my entire life—perfectly tender, flavorful, and packed with that amazing smoky depth you only get from people who really know what they’re doing. The macaroni and cheese was incredibly creamy and cheesy, and the cornbread muffin paired with it was spot-on. The location is great, the atmosphere feels welcoming, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. You can tell they genuinely care about the food and their guests. If you’re anywhere nearby, do yourself a favor and stop in. Smokestack Express is an absolute must-try! 🔥🍽️“
