“My friends had told me I have to try the coneys at the Gopher Bar. I’m in St. Paul like never, so I have never got to go. I tried to go in July, but they were closed. And with their limited hours, it makes it tough.

I was finally in the area on a Saturday night, and hungry. I stopped in and it was well lit with plenty of seating. Fun, friendly atmosphere with a great wait staff. Fast service for a Saturday evening after 10pm. Got the drinks quickly, got the food quickly. Great service. I might go back just for the service.

I got the deep fried ravioli as an appetizer. Kind of like pizza rolls. They were delicious. I’d get them again for sure.

I also finally got to try the coneys. While they are expensive at $4 apiece, they are delicious. Served hot with a mountain of onions and on special toasted buns specifically for these coneys, it was a great experience. The only knock on the coneys is they don’t come with mustard on them which was odd. I knew they were missing something. I added the mustard and they were great. The dogs have a great “snap” to them when you bite them as they should.

I will definitely be back. Best coney’s in the metro that I’ve found. And I’ve tried a LOT of places.

Just be warned, parking in ST. Paul can be a nightmare and the Gopher Bar only takes cash.

“Absolutely fantastic speakeasy style pub, it really feels like it has old bones. The music was fantastic and its a very intimate and we look forward to heading back when we visit next year. The food upstairs and Lucky's was pretty good as well.“

“Probably the best Gluten Free food we've tried. The service was fantastic, the employees started joking around with us right away and made us feel welcomed. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer, and their homemade mix for fried food is absolutely excellent. Plus, they offer gluten free cheese curds and that's very hard to find. Such an amazing experience, definitely coming back.“

They keep their old tradition as cash only, which the bartender explained, even though card option would’ve been nice since the atm and my bank both will charge fees withdrawing cash. “When I eat I drink Bloody Mary's they just taste better with my food if I feel like a drink, let me tell you I had a very reasonable priced Bloody Mary and it was on Point I could taste everything in the drink a first for me and it had all the fixings as well, I appreciated that. They also have a place too eat Pop's and Son grill I ordered 4 wings and a brisket topped Baked potato I asked for my wings hard didn't get that but they tasted ok and the brisket was not a lot but also good I didn't bring my wings back because they seemed real busy they brought me someone else's food at first them my order and I appreciated Who I assume was Pop came and talked to his customer's checking on them and their food they gave us A 1 service I work in kitchen's and understand things happen sometimes it's how you react to the situation and after that matters the most and they gave the all. “This is an absolutely wonderful male dive bar, it's quiet and has quick service... if you are a female watch out for Steve(married) and be ready for probably too much attention because it's all older men and a couple biddies around.“

Their Oak Room space was perfect for a group of 120ish people, event staff were extremely helpful in setting up food, drinks, and fun for our guests and took great care of us the night of. Highly recommend as both a neighborhood bar, and as a place to host an event of any size.“

“Beer flights at the Minnesota state fair that change daily. A very cool way to check out some Minnesota beers at the fair. Buy a flight ticket from the booth first then pick which flight option you want. There is also a booth with merchandise there too.“

If fact, 3 years later and my son is still talking about Bob's steak sandwich being the best food he's ever eaten! “This is a classic St. Paul bar. Don't expect anything fancy, but what it lacks in poshness it makes up in charm. The bartenders are very nice. The patrons are mostly regulars and are down to earth and friendly. If you want to just have a drink at a good price this is the spot. Oh and if you are worried about this place not being accepting and safe, I was here to watch my lesbian sister perform her music and was with my best friend who is a drag queen. My sister is one of the regulars here and her and her wife love it.“

“Let me start by saying I love this place, but I've got some gripes. Horrendous bouncers. The bouncer on 11/8/24 was horrible. I didn't catch her name, but she had no business working her position. After waiting in line outside to check in for the concert, I decided to get a beer at the main bar, when I got inside. Upon returning to the line, she said we had to wait until all other guests got through, despite us interacting with her in the line, and already waiting our turn. Upon talking with other concert goers, we weren't the only ones she screwed. Plenty of other people were told to go back in the line they already waited in, and plenty of people missed a show they paid for. I missed 80% of the show I paid to see due to her not letting me in. Yall can do better, I know you can. I frequent this venue for concerts a lot, and this night was the worst.“

“Service can be spotty. Our server forgot our app sampler and bought it at the end. Everyone makes mistakes but they should have comped part of the cost of the late apps without being asked. We were literally done eating the entree and had to box it.“
