Montelle Winery

When we stay in Washington, Missouri, our winery hopping itinerary goes: (1) Montelle Winery, (2) Augusta Winery Tasting Room, (3) Noboleis Vineyards, (4) Balducci Vineyards and (5) Blumenhof Winery. This winery is on top of a hill and has a gorgeous view of the surrounding trees and land. When you enter the building, there is a tasting bar, then behind it is the check out counter. The whole process of paying and ordering was a little confusing but we eventually figured it out. At the checkout counter you can place your food order, pay for wine samples, and buy bottles of wine (and other drinks they have in upright coolers behind the checkout area). We went here on a nice fall day for a snack and a bottle of wine. They have a nice setup that is easy to get along with. The people are friendly and efficient. They have a nice selection of their wines. I especially like their Nortons, which is kind of unique and I haven't seen it in other areas of the US. Supposedly the Norton grape was grown by Thomas Jefferson on his estate at Monticello, but I feel that may be a legend.I am disappointed that the trees on the deck are now gone....read full review
