I was so disappointed when the place closed a couple years ago because of Covid, back when it was across the street from the Blue Note. The food is AMAZING. They have Americanized Chinese food, which is pretty good, but they also have authentic Szechuan food, which is INCREADIBLE. Try the Three Pepper Lamb, or the Cumin Beef. Szechuan food always makes me wonder why people ever started making sweet and sour chicken and… Real Chinese food is incredible!“

You talk through plexiglass and a LOUD speaker blasts unintelligible unseen voice back at the entire room. A little awkward waiting for your food there. “I've had my fair share of Americanized Chinese food across the Midwest, and I can't say that I've ever been particularly impressed...until coming to Taste Place. I stopped by with a friend for an early Saturday dinner, and we were seated immediately, with our steaming plates of wonderful food arriving shortly after. My friend got their sesame chicken dinner combo, which she said was perfectly seasoned and had just the right levels of crispiness and crunch. She subbed out the eggroll that comes with the combo for their hot and sour soup, which she greatly enjoyed along with the fried rice. I went for one of their "special diet" menu items (which I appreciated that they had), and it was pretty standard -- steamed tofu with a heaping helping of vegetables, as well as what seemed like a giant bowl of oyster sauce on the side. The true star of the night, though, was their sesame balls. I'm usually really picky with sesame balls, but they did a phenomenal job at this place. Fried to perfection, but not overly greasy, with the perfect level of crispiness and minimal sweetness. Also, at $6.99 for 10, the price is really unbeatable. I definitely wasn't expecting to get dim sum-quality sesame balls at the Columbia Mall, but Taste Place really did not disappoint.“
