A staple in Maplewood: the staff is friendly, the bar has some great offerings, and the food is delicious. “Ok, here’s the thing… I love food. And when I say I love food, you might think I’m a huge person or a food critic or a chef or just a dramatic fan. Well, I am actually an artist, and I… I can tell you in no uncertain terms, that the food we received was *high art.* I don’t mean the kind of pretentious high art food that is served in tiny portions and so beautiful that you almost don’t want to eat it. I mean that it was masterfully created—flavorful, textured to perfection, filling, and lamentable *only* in that I wish I’d had room for more. We started with the stuffed mushroom appetizer—which I’ll admit is not usually my favorite, but my wife generally loves—served upon a sprinkle of arugula and a slashed drizzle of balsamic glaze. Imma tell ya… I like stuffed mushrooms now. My wife ordered an entrée of eggplant Parmesan—one that she doesn’t care to make often for herself only because (and I’m quoting), “It’s a pain in the a$$ to cook.” I ordered linguine Pomodoro with added shrimp and had the steamed mussels appetizer served with my entrée, so that I could add them in (as I *do* love a tutto mare). Since my wife’s entrée was one of her favorites, and I don’t generally care for it, I left her to it, concentrating on my own. I shucked all the mussels and strained their accompanying shallots and bacon into my linguine leaving the garlic and cilantro pesto behind for bread dipping. OH [*clap*clap*clap*]—I forgot to mention the bread. They served a fantastic mini loaf of the softest bread topped with caramelized onions alongside fresh grated Parmesan in olive oil. Upon our finishing it off, I asked for a second helping. Back to the entrée… My first actual bite was of the mussels, and that bite was fantastic. Then I had one of the shrimp… and… here’s the thing… I am a poet, and I also write children’s books, so when I tell you that I simply do not have a superlative sufficient to describe the shrimp, you know I’m being serious. It was warm, seasoned, and snappy as shrimp should be, but it gave me pause—as Anton Ego in Ratatouille. * First, doubt—that I had experienced something so specifically wonderful before * Then, a quick scan from childhood to now for confirmation * And lastly, the comfort that can only come from those happiest memories of childhood—Christmas mornings on receiving more than you could ever have hoped for, Halloween nights’ preparations for what giggles and terrors were to come, and burrito-you ensconced in soft blankets straight from the dryer Then of course, the rest of the dish, twirled and slurped—not too quickly… every bite a confirmation and yet still a revelation. Here again, my only lament that I must see a portion of it boxed to leave room for dessert. And… dessert. Oh, boy… Seeing all of the items, my wife and I—in celebration of our 26th anniversary—decided on the sampler. Listen up, folks: flourless chocolate torta, crème custard napoleon, and gooey butter cake. JFC are you serious? Every bite more sumptuous—more scrumptious than the last. Every bit a reassurance that I will return. Our server, Chelsea, was commendable not only for her menu knowledge and sense of humor, but it’s not for nothing that she was absolutely on top of it with regard to my tea refills (which were many, as our dinner took place after a dehydratingly-busy workday for me). We will definitely be returning to Eleven Eleven, whereupon I intend to try a few different items, my palate then flooded with new sensations—new wonders… my only lament that I will not ever have that “first time experience” again.“

“First time visitor here, and Square One really left a great first impression! I brought a group of 8 in for a birthday dinner, and the staff really went above and beyond to accommodate a short-notice reservation for us. “Bring back the roasted tomato tarte! The best item on the menu for me was the Roasted Tomato Tarte that I enjoyed on numerous occasions. It was even highlighted on their menu as a favorite. So I scheduled a lunch with family and looked forward to the Roasted Tomato Tarte again today. BUT IT IS NO LONGER ON THE MENU!!! Bummer! I asked for the recipe and they said they would send it. “Would I recommend Blue Strawberry? Yes or no, those are my only options? How about maybe, depends… I am not a complainer but here goes. This was our second time at B.S. The first time was great, no issues enjoyed the show drinks and food. However, the second time (on 7/27/25) we arrived and were put in the back corner (by the sound board) and it took over 45 minutes for someone to take our order and that was only after several patrons complained. Finally, the owner came over with some excuse about being backed up and he was reminded some of us had been here almost an hour and nobody ever check on us (remember this place has a $15 dollar food and drink minimum per person). Now, one would think when you own a business and patrons are complaining that you as the owner would step up and take an order? Nope, he walked away and went and found a worker who eventually came over and took 1/2 of the back sections orders while skipping the other half. Eventually, a young lady finally appeared in our area and took our orders (after coming back 2x to verify what we ordered). Our drinks came out right away but the fries I ordered never came out. I find out later that they were delivered to the wrong table and the customer said I didn’t order fries, but I’ll take them. You would think as a server you might go gee, if that table didn’t order the fries, I wonder what table did? Nope! I eventually had to go to the bar and complain and I finally got the fries. Now FF to the end of the show and we NEVER got a bill, everyone around us did, but not us. I could have easily walked out and never paid my tab but momma didn’t raise me like that, so I went to the bar, found a server and settled my $50 tab. I had to chase down every aspect of my “dinner theater” experience. I like the venue, I like the concept but NOBODY appeared to know what was going on last night.“

“We met up with family from out of town on Friday night. The food was great as always. We sat and chit chatted for a bit after we were finished eating. Our sever was cut and we were not told. When we were ready to leave the server who had taken over our table was very rude and made a comment I finally get my station back! As we were getting up and walking away she went further to say that maybe she will be able to get a table finally before she’s cut. Nothing was mentioned about her needing her table or anything of that nature otherwise we would have gladly given it up. We’ve never had this issue when dining at biggies before. We were astonished and how rude she was instead of just asking us if we were finished. She never offered to refill our drinks or anything. We are very disappointed as we believed this was a family friendly environment who did not have an issue with a family getting together to celebrate the holiday early“

“They had food setup at One Metropolitan downtown, the food was decent but I didn’t taste anything that makes me want to return. I do wish them success because they were very nice. Here’s my feedback: 1st The sauce on the ribs was tasty but the ribs themselves were a bit chewier than I like and I didn’t taste any smoked flavor, really didn’t give a grill taste but the sauce did save them a little. 2nd the mac and cheese had a good taste but it doesn’t give baked mac & cheese more of stove top. Overall not a bad experience but the price point has them way over priced for what you get, ribs and mac & cheese cost me $21.94 when you can get 2 meats and 2 sides at Salt & Smoke for that price.“

“This is the ONLY place in STL that actually feels like LA on the inside. The atmosphere is fantastic and brightens your mood. A great place to work remotely if you have the midday blues.
As for the food, the sides are absolutely delicious and full of flavor, however they go cold almost as soon as you receive it. So eating slow and enjoying your meal becomes quite a hassle. The steak is yummy but the cook on it is not consistent. The pinker pieces definitely have more flavor, unfortunately much of the steak I have received over the past couple orders have been over cooked and a bit dry. The miso crunch salad is very similar to the Health Nut Chicken Asian Salad (The famous Kardashian Salad) except for two distinct differences. The “crunch” is non-existent as there are not any won tons or rice strips. The salad could really use some sort of makeshift crouton to achieve this instead of relying on cabbage. The dressing is also more on the bitter side and doesn’t have the bright flare you’d come to expect from an Asian salad, making it fall short. A little sweetness and citrus added to the dressing would fix this. As for the drinks, same problem with sweetness. The lemonade is too sour and without the sweetness in their mango sencha green tea, it’s no different than making a mostly tasteless tea for yourself at home. Would love to see Flower Child tweak their recipes just a bit to add sweetness and brightness and this establishment would be 5/5 stars.“

“My experience at CATHY’S Restaurant & Diner, was amazing. It was my sister and I first time eating there. We were welcomed by Mrs. Kathy herself, with that beautiful Smile, Charming personality, and Professionalism. Very clean restaurant, while our food was being prepared we were able to adore all the pictures of mrs. Cathy featured with so many celebrities all over the walls of the restaurant, along with other wall memorabilia’s The presentation of the Cajun Shrimp Pasta,and the Fish and Shrimp Combo both are must try dishes, and soooo delicious! From the first taste to the last bite left a lasting impression. I/we will definitely be back to try more of Mrs. CATHY’S amazing dishes and the Banana Pudding, and Strawberry Cakes.
