I don’t go out much. My usual nightlife consists of refrigerator light and a cozy existential crisis. But in the spirit of not regretting life on my deathbed (which feels closer every time I eat fried mushrooms), I ventured to Midtown Country Club.

And you know what? I had fun. Like, honest-to-goodness, looked-up-darts-on-Amazon-after kind of fun. Learned how to play darts with some tragically unbalanced plastic ones, and still managed to feel like an Olympic athlete in the glow of good vibes.

Shoutout to the bartender—this man is a sober cocktail sorcerer. I asked for something citrusy, low sugar, no alcohol, and he handed me a cup of mystery that tasted like a sunset on a fresh start. Give that man a bonus and a playlist deal.

The crowd? Surprisingly lovely. Diverse, relaxed, unbothered. And as someone who usually stiffens up around groups of gays I don’t know (read: trauma, shade, and past brunches), Sean’s friends were actually warm and welcoming. It reshaped some deep-seated expectations I didn’t realize I was still carrying.

All in all, 5 stars for a Tuesday night that gave me community, a tasty mocktail, and a hobby that now requires wrist coordination and a budget.

“Mandatory destination for soccer fans. Cool old school bar in a really cool brick alley. Upstairs and downstairs are both small but not claustrophobic. Scarves on the walls and a match on tv, classic soccer bar stuff. Bartender was a good guy, great soccer conversation and some helpful local insight on other watering holes. Glad that we stopped by Courtyard Hooligans, if you are a soccer fan you will enjoy it too !“

“It has probably be a year or so since I went here. This great little pub turned in to my spot for the long weekend I was in Charlotte. “Stopped in Sunday at 9am as we heard this was a place to watch Formula One and I was visiting my son at UNCC and we needed to good place to watch. The atmosphere was great, the local F1 fan group (where were heard about Dom's) was there and it was fun to be among other fans. The server and bartender were pleasant and very responsive and once they could legally serve me a beer, the did right after 10 am. Overall had a nice time there, exactly what we were hoping for. I hope Dom's does well.“

“To preface, I am not a regular at billiard bars nor do I know much about them. But I came for a date and had a nice time! I wasn't sure what the clientele or atmosphere was going to be like, but it's definitely dive bar vibes and not very many women at all. I was the only woman for the first couple hours and by the time I left I think there were two more. I was worried it would be more of a biker place but it was a pretty "normal" selection of men lol.

Bartenders were friendly, but note that they don't serve food there.

It was a little bit tight in some areas and I just had to make sure I wasn't going to hit somebody while I was playing and sometimes I had to move tables and chairs around too.

Overall it wasn't super intimidating for someone who is not serious about playing pool, but it was a fun way to spend a Friday night!“

I lost my phone in Charlotte and and Uber driver that didn’t speak English found it walking down the road. Since he only spoke Spanish I went to the bar and Nohemi not only talked to him she negotiated the return of my phone. NOT ONLY THAT. She came out side in the 22 degree weather to help me translate with the guy!
