“Went two times in two days while we were visiting family because we love Hendrix! Can't go wrong with the breakfast or BBQ...my favorites! Also, we love that kids eat free! Such a deal, and will keep us coming back for years!

“On my birthday last night , we chose to celebrate by going out to dinner at another local restaurant. What made this restaurant stand out was that they cooked their food right in front of us. A kind man politely asked us to switch seats with him so our kids could have a better experience. We were a group of seven seated with a lovely local family of three. We enjoyed conversations about sports and other topics. At the end of the night, we were delighted to discover that our bill had been taken care of ($343.24). We were sitting with the owner of College Barbecue! We regularly visited Salisbury to watch my niece play basketball at Catawba College.We are new to the food selection in the area.I'm excited to eat at his restaurant on my NEXT visit to show my appreciation. “I grew up in Salisbury and lived there well into my adulthood. I live in Columbia, SC now but when I come back to town to visit my Mom, one of my favorite places to eat is at Checkered Flag. They’re food is really good but the hard working ladies who serve the customers is what makes it great. They take the time to talk to every customer at every table and it’s not just chit chat. They really want to know how you are and what they can do for you to make your visit perfect. They treat everyone like family but for those of us who come back again and again, we become family. Even for me, an out of towner, I even know two of the hard working ladies, Angela and Jen. Angela showed her hard working team spirit yesterday when, Jen, our server, was tied up with her other tables. Angela stepped in and took our order until Jen could get back over to us. This example of teamwork becomes contagious and I’m sure that Jen has done the same thing for Angela and all of her co-workers. Jen is such a joy to be around. Her personality oozes charisma and warmth and she makes you feel truly special because that is who she is!! “I'd say it's a secret gem, but the cat is out of the bag. I'm reasonably well travelled and it is my favorite place for BBQ in Salisbury. That said, Salisbury is my hometown and I am biased.

Salisbury has wonderful barbeque all over compared to other parts of NC--especially the more developed areas. College Barbeque around the corner IS the best pulled pork barbeque because they still have a smoke pit.

That's fine if you just want to away BBQ for plates or sandwhiches BUT, if you want to to dine in a place with solidly great barbeque, local charm and excellent service, this Hendrix near the original Food Lion (Food Town) is the place to go. They also way outshine other BBQ places in town for a hot breakfast.

Hendrix and College BBQ are right around the corner from each other; try both and see which you like best--be careful who you tell though, in Salisbury we take our BBQ seriously and it is not unheard of for debate over the best BBQ in town to ruffle a few feathers.

Parking: Lot is a mid sized lot, but the popularity has outgrown the parking space. If it's full you may need to park nearby and walk.“

“Rockwell is out of the way. Darrell's BBQ is one of the best reasons for going out of one's way. Portions are generous. The servings are fresh. The wait staff is very cordial and helpful, and not all about the tip. (I know that, because I also took a to-go order, forgot to tip on it, and went back an hour later to correct that oversight. The waitress said that she never noticed. That said a lot to me. Of course, I tipped, as I had intended.

Parking: More parking behind the building than in front!“

The sandwich was large and full of rough/large chop BBQ. Large bun. Large portion of tater tots. Very good flavor, probably one of the best BBQ places I've eaten. I'm sure price was related to the portion size. I couldn't complain. I was surprised by the portion and the price. Both were "large" for me, and I can't remember when I last ate BBQ out, but at another place I spent 14.09 on just 2 bacon biscuits. This was a MUCH BETTER DEAL. IN FACT, as I said, if I relate the portion to the price, 2 people could have been stuffed by the meal I had at this very nice restaurant. Getting in and out at certain times of day is probably a nightmare, but once I got in, getting out was not so bad.

Parking: Adequate parking. Harder to get into and out of certain times of day... His c food on a very busy road

“We had a great time. Sat at the bar until the table was ready, it only took about ten to fifteen minutes, and it was so full!! My friend and I had salmon with the pilaf rice underneath and asparagus, which is always perfect ,so good!!! My daughter had a 10 oz sirloin with a salad and asparagus,and she loved every bite! Then she got the chocolate cake for dessert! Everyone got a bite ,we had a nice time. The waitress was very friendly and didn't miss a beat,very prompt!“
