“This is my very favorite BBQ place anywhere! The food is delicious. BBQ, BBQ chicken, or the daily special. The hushpuppies are hot and flavorful. The service is quite good, and the vibe is retro fun. I can't go to Salisbury without my Hendrix.“

“On my birthday last night , we chose to celebrate by going out to dinner at another local restaurant. What made this restaurant stand out was that they cooked their food right in front of us. A kind man politely asked us to switch seats with him so our kids could have a better experience. We were a group of seven seated with a lovely local family of three. We enjoyed conversations about sports and other topics. At the end of the night, we were delighted to discover that our bill had been taken care of ($343.24). We were sitting with the owner of College Barbecue! We regularly visited Salisbury to watch my niece play basketball at Catawba College.We are new to the food selection in the area.I'm excited to eat at his restaurant on my NEXT visit to show my appreciation. Random acts of kindness are still having a significant impact on the world. It's wonderful to know that great people still exist. THANK YOU TO THE OWNERS OF COLLEGE BARBECUE. BE KIND“

“First time in about 30 years that I have been there, but the food is still good, and the curb service is even faster than ever!! I got my food in about three minutes flat!! They have dine in as well, but great place to drop in if you're In a hurry!“

“I had chopped pork tray w/tater salad and pasta salad. The waitress was wide up but she kept up good and our food came out quickly and hot. The place was full for Saturday lunch. Probably the best tater and pasta salad I've had. I even got to go orders of them both as I had BBQ left over. The BBQ was a huge portion, it was moist and chopped, not chopped or ground to a powder like other NC BBQ I've had. Reason for the 4 star on the food is though the BBQ was moist and there was a lot of it, it lacked a smokey flavor or any taste of having any rub or seasoning on it. I don't eat pepper vinegar(my analysis of NC BBQ sauce) so having a sweet sauce or some other sauce to choose from might be nice. I'm not knocking it, it was the most moist tender BBQ I've had with no sauce or seasoning. I will most definitely stop in again and bring my own sauce or rub to sprinkle on my plate.
The atmosphere was awesome. The walls are covered in NASCAR die cast and memorabilia. Took me back to a much simpler time and a time when I loved racing. Thanks for that! Thanks for a hot taste meal
There is a drive thru, catering and plenty of parking around back. Don't let the few parking spaces out fron scare you off“

“I grew up in Salisbury and lived there well into my adulthood. I live in Columbia, SC now but when I come back to town to visit my Mom, one of my favorite places to eat is at Checkered Flag. They’re food is really good but the hard working ladies who serve the customers is what makes it great. They take the time to talk to every customer at every table and it’s not just chit chat. They really want to know how you are and what they can do for you to make your visit perfect. They treat everyone like family but for those of us who come back again and again, we become family. Even for me, an out of towner, I even know two of the hard working ladies, Angela and Jen. Angela showed her hard working team spirit yesterday when, Jen, our server, was tied up with her other tables. Angela stepped in and took our order until Jen could get back over to us. This example of teamwork becomes contagious and I’m sure that Jen has done the same thing for Angela and all of her co-workers. Jen is such a joy to be around. Her personality oozes charisma and warmth and she makes you feel truly special because that is who she is!! I heartily recommend Checkered Flag for their great food and and their even greater people!! I rate them 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and 5 hearts!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️“

“This restaurant just knocks it out of the ballpark in service and quality. It is our favorite Longhorn location, and we are never disappointed. The food is always fresh, order is accurate, and service is great. We drive from Statesville and it’s worth the drive.“

“Went two times in two days while we were visiting family because we love Hendrix! Can't go wrong with the breakfast or BBQ...my favorites! Also, we love that kids eat free! Such a deal, and will keep us coming back for years!
