“Long time local restaurant which serves great BBQ and the usual diner lunch food. I don't live near the restaurant but always stop when in the area. When you smell hickory smoke at any BBQ place it is usually a winner and this one is as well. Just not sure about the freshness or the sauce in a repurposed ketchup bottle. The service is good but this is a small place and has a line waiting on a booth or table to clear at peak times especially after church This gives a sense of how good the food is.“

“I grew up in Salisbury and lived there well into my adulthood. I live in Columbia, SC now but when I come back to town to visit my Mom, one of my favorite places to eat is at Checkered Flag. They’re food is really good but the hard working ladies who serve the customers is what makes it great. They take the time to talk to every customer at every table and it’s not just chit chat. They really want to know how you are and what they can do for you to make your visit perfect. They treat everyone like family but for those of us who come back again and again, we become family. Even for me, an out of towner, I even know two of the hard working ladies, Angela and Jen. Angela showed her hard working team spirit yesterday when, Jen, our server, was tied up with her other tables. Angela stepped in and took our order until Jen could get back over to us. This example of teamwork becomes contagious and I’m sure that Jen has done the same thing for Angela and all of her co-workers. Jen is such a joy to be around. Her personality oozes charisma and warmth and she makes you feel truly special because that is who she is!! I heartily recommend Checkered Flag for their great food and and their even greater people!! I rate them 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and 5 hearts!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️“

“I used the curbside service and the wait service was excellent. Our food was packaged appropriately; hush puppies and roll were wrapped individually which I appreciated. For me personally, the chopped BBQ was swimming in sauce. I prefer less sauce and should have requested this when I ordered. The portions in the small and large trays were excellent. Their red and white slaw is amazing.“

The sandwich was large and full of rough/large chop BBQ. Large bun. Large portion of tater tots. Very good flavor, probably one of the best BBQ places I've eaten. I'm sure price was related to the portion size. I couldn't complain. I was surprised by the portion and the price. Both were "large" for me, and I can't remember when I last ate BBQ out, but at another place I spent 14.09 on just 2 bacon biscuits. This was a MUCH BETTER DEAL. IN FACT, as I said, if I relate the portion to the price, 2 people could have been stuffed by the meal I had at this very nice restaurant. Getting in and out at certain times of day is probably a nightmare, but once I got in, getting out was not so bad.

“We had a great time. Sat at the bar until the table was ready, it only took about ten to fifteen minutes, and it was so full!! My friend and I had salmon with the pilaf rice underneath and asparagus, which is always perfect ,so good!!! My daughter had a 10 oz sirloin with a salad and asparagus,and she loved every bite! Then she got the chocolate cake for dessert! Everyone got a bite ,we had a nice time. The waitress was very friendly and didn't miss a beat,very prompt!“

“Rockwell is out of the way. Darrell's BBQ is one of the best reasons for going out of one's way. Portions are generous. The servings are fresh. The wait staff is very cordial and helpful, and not all about the tip. (I know that, because I also took a to-go order, forgot to tip on it, and went back an hour later to correct that oversight. The waitress said that she never noticed. That said a lot to me. Of course, I tipped, as I had intended.
