“This place is a gem! I was craving Mac and cheese and when I looked at the menu decided to check it out. Incredible food. I got the rib dinner with collards and mac and cheese. The dinner comes with four big St. Louis ribs that had a really nice bark and great sauce. They were tender but had a nice chew (because ribs shouldn't fall off the bone) Collards were well seasoned and not soupy. The mac and cheese was incredible. Creamy and perfectly seasoned. The portion was huge. The banana pudding was fantastic. It actually tastes like banana because it's not just vanilla pudding with cut up bananas. I got two meals out of this dinner.

The service was also fantastic. While I was waiting for my order to be prepared I was given some tastes of other items. The turkey and cobblers were great. The owners are incredibly friendly and we had a lovely conversation. Check this place out! I will definitely be going back.“

“My family and I met up in Jersey from three states (Colorado, North Carolina and Virginia). We googled a few places for brunch/soul food and decided to try Vonda’s. Small quaint location and when we were initially seated we questioned the service from our waiter. However things quickly changed, other employees engaged with us influencing a positive experience. The food came out and was AMAZING. It was 5 of us so we had a variety of items (fried chicken, oxtails, greens & cabbage mix, Mac n cheese, potato salad, black eye peas etc…) While enjoying our meal Ms. Vonda came out to speak to us and ensure we were having a pleasant experience. Owners are not that engaged these days so that was a great touch. In addition on of the hostess (missed her name, so we will call her “the dj” ) was great and funny. I mean EVERYTHING was delicious, great experience and genuine company. You must try this place!“

“I've been looking forward to trying this restaurants menu items. yesterday was only the 1st, for sure. I had a shrimp po boy, perfect, packed with shrimp, just the right sauces, really good. I took home a container of their vegan lentil soup which is better than my lentil soup. that's not a small thing. beautifully balanced flavor, really delicious. I can't wait to go back and try everything else.“

“Excellent restaurant, highly recommended. We were there on a Monday night and ordered rib eye, cheeseburger with fries, chesseak with fries and the food was wonderful. Nicolas and Dilson served us wonderfully, you don't need to be behind them because they are always looking out for you. The atmosphere of the place is incredible, its decoration is impeccable and at this Christmas time it smells exquisite. “I've been here before and I liked the food but this place has really pushed things up, I loved everything I had, the oxtail tasted like stew ( not like sugar I've had at other places) I enjoyed the heat on the rasta pasta and the sides of potatoe salad and collards were a delight. “Had the catfish poboy at uptown night Market! They told me 15 minutes was done in 15 minutes. It was a large fried catfish filet and it was perfectly crispy. I think the tartar sauce may have needed a little more salt but overall great experience. Reminded me of Louisiana“

The food we catered (Mac & cheese, greens & cabbage mix, along with jerk salmon) were all delicious with the perfect amount of heat. The dishes were beautifully presented for us upon pick-up to warm easily for our gathering with specific warming instructions to prevent drying out. Our family appreciated the hands that prepared our feast. Chef Mo goes out of her way to make sure details are met with a smile! I would highly recommend everything on the menu.

“I ordered a brisket sandwich on a bun and it was fantastic. Meat was very flavorful and melted in my mouth. I also got some seasoned fries and they were delicious.Highly recommend this place.

“We booked a dinner for a party of 7 not knowing that this is one of the nights for dueling piano. The place was quite loud/energetic once the show started. And because of the event we were not offered a normal table, instead was offered a high top. Not the most comfortable set up when we are sharing food amongst the 7 of us with such a narrow table top. We managed but wouldn't do this again. Food overall was good. We got two orders of the smoked wings, one with honey BBQ sauce and the other the with bull sauce. Personally I preferred the bull sauce as it has a little kick to it. The honey BBQ was too sweet for me. We also shared the Pitmaster's Pick combo to share. The brisket was easily the best and the ribs were the least good being a bit dried out. Ribs and chicken were both OK. We had mac 'n cheese, brisket chili, southern sweet potatoes and texas slaw. They were all pretty good. If you are looking for a place to enjoy a meal with good friends who you don't see regularly and want to catch up, pick a different night or a different restaurant.“
