“Oliver’s Restaurant has quickly become my new favorite place to eat. The food is delicious, love the cozy atmosphere, and service is top notch. We have dined there a few times in the last couple months and each time we’ve had the same server, Robyn. She is knowledgeable, her service is prompt, and she really goes the extra mile. Last night the restaurant squeezed us in at a last minute request and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend!!“

“This is a pleasant restaurant if you want something to eat when you're visiting the museum.

There wasn't a big selection of items on the menu but what they served was good. I had the seafood chowder which was really good. My wife had the bratwurst which she found a bit too gamey for her but I thought it was fine.

If you can get a table near the windows you'll be rewarded with some lovely views down over St. John's.“

Staff was awesome and friendly, while somewhat “saucy” (Joe and Tracy)! 😂 Locals were fun and made me feel like part of the group (Ally, Chris & Jeff, who talks too much)!! Local talent was awesome and can definitely sing and play to keep everyone entertained!! I will be back!!“

“Very cute spot that feels plucked right out of the 1990s. Glad to see that this kinda place can still survive in today’s climate even if only by nostalgia. The service was friendly and the food was solid for what it was, classic pub food with a bit of a Tex-Mex twist. Not a Newfoundlander by birth so can speak on this without being influenced by childhood memories, the place isn’t exactly fine dining but it’s more than solid for what it is!“

“A good friend had suggested we eat at The Merchant and have the “Carte Blanche” = essentially we are in the hands of the chefs. Four courses. Sounds simple enough. But, each course came with two or three items. We started with a pea shoot salad with candied cranberries, crispy onions, candied dried lemon in a cranberry vinaigrette, plus smoked arctic char with cream cheese and mayonnaise and dill served with crispy buttered croutons to spread the fish onto and crab bites served on baguette. Washed down with sparkling wine.
Next course: pan fried crispy halibut with an apple beurre blanc and sautéed onion quarters plus squid ink risotto with calamari, shrimp and mussels…so good with a lovely clean Chablis
Next course: 20 day aged ribeye steak with a red wine reduction jus, served with creamy mashed with chives and buttery & garlicky broccolini…deliciously paired with a chewy Chianti.
Last course: pistachio tiramisu and a caramelized crumble with a chocolate gelato topped with a toasted marshmallow cap served with a Sauternes and a 2009 vintage port
