“I live outside St. Louis in Eureka, MO so I haven't been to The Other Place, I lived there. Well, not there but above there in the front apartment back in 1954 when it was a bakery. My dad was stationed in Iceland so it was just my Mom and I. I visited Allegany in 1977 and then it was a tavern. It's nice to see the place is still there and doing so well.”

“My wife grew up in Olean, but she had not been back in almost 30 years. I’ve heard so many stories about how great the beef was, so when we visited Olean this past week, I knew that Beef’ N Barrel would be our first stop.

The experience was better than I had expected. What a great atmosphere. You could tell that this was a popular restaurant for locals, but an out of towner like myself was made to feel welcome. Our server was so friendly. One of the owners, PJ, went out of his way to make our dining experience outstanding.

Let’s get to the food. We had pickle chips for an appetizer. They were really good. The breading was a little thicker than some other pickle chips I’ve had. Main course was the beef on weck. The beef almost melted in my mouth. It was so good. PJ comped our dessert, so we ordered chocolate mud pie and strawberry shortcake ala mode, which was the weekly special. Fantastic.

We were in Olean for three days. There are plenty of places to eat, but we decided to go back to Beef’ N Barrel a second time before leaving town. It’s that good! The second time was just as good as our first visit.”

“Had a going away party at JJ’s for about 50 people. The staff was wonderful in helping us create a menu, the cooks were friendly and had everything out and ready. They were easy to work with and the prices were very reasonable. I would def do it there again.”
