“Came here with friends who are locals because this is one of their favorite spots. The restaurant itself is small and very well decorated to fit the tex-mex theme.
We thought service was okay - we ordered chips and queso, 2-3 tacos per person, and later some corn bread. It felt like we watched tables who ordered after us all get their chips first while ours came out slow with no spacing between the appetizer and tacos.
For the food, the flavor of the beer queso was very good. I tried the bean and cheese taco and chicken verde taco which were equally 4/5. The star of the show was the tortillas which were excellent. We also had the cornbread which was a very good balance of sweet and salty between the caramelized walnuts and salty butter.
My wife had the barbacoa taco and papas tacos which were both only okay taste wise . They do really loaf up all the tacos with a large amount of filling which is nice.
We were a bit confused when asked about allergens - we mentioned that my wife has a peanut allergy to the server and their response was if it is okay for there to be potential cross contamination where peanuts could get into the dish on a shared prep space, which is not our general familiarity with cross contamination risk, this would just be containing peanuts. We were confused how to answer and they did tell the kitchen about the allergy for us but my wife was eating nervously the whole time waiting to see if she would have a reaction or not. More confidence in the answer from the server would have helped.
I’d come back for the quesadillas and corn bread.
The bathroom is clean, make sure to respect the pillsburry dough man tribute 🙃! (see photos)“

“I loved the modern place, open if you want outside or inside, there are two environments or rooms, there is no happy hour, it is not very economical, the divine drinks even the virgin versions are divine, the service is very good, the shrimp meat nachos are also divine, the salads, I liked everything 👍“

“The food was fresh, but it didn't wow me, and it's not inexpensive. Service was quick, and the waiters were very friendly. The backyard patio is nice, and the interior has a nice "tex-mex vibe" that's atypical in NYC.“

“Me and my wife had an amazing afternoon at Javelina. It was Nat’l Margarita Day, so my wife made us reservations for us. Sitting with Kayla at the bar, and chatting with Micah while we ate and drank- they truly made us feel like family. I had carnitas tacos while my wife had the beef- both were delicious. Rice and Beans were correct- if you know what I mean. Washed that down with a prickly pear frozen margarita and some super fresh Modelo’s… Man, I bet my Saturday was better than yours… :)“

“It's a nice chill spot for a couple or group of friends. The food is really good and it comes to your table quickly. The people are very nice. They also have take out..there is street parking and a rest room. Wheel chairs are ok since it's on the street level. With no ramp. And small outdoor dining space
Wheelchair accessibility: Yes a wheelchair can get into the place. It's ground level, no steps. They can dine-in or take out.“

“We ordered carnita tacos and the presentation was very good, although the meat was a little too salty, you could eat it, the atmosphere is like a bar where you can go to talk with friends but it is also familiar. In conclusion it is nothing wow but it is not the worst either so you can pass on the customer service is good.“

“This place is definitely a sleeper. When you’re hungry Tex mex food just hits different. I won’t lie, they don’t do the best wrap jobs on the burritos and the meat be dry sometimes, but honestly the flavoring is good. The price is okay, they be wanting almost 4 dollars for a taco.“

“Really nice spot for friends or families to gather for delicious meals with ok drinks. I and my husband went there for a date. We really enjoyed our meal, atmosphere and music. What I did not like was the location of the bathroom and the waiters showing up every few minutes to offer us water, refill the water, or asking if everything was ok other than that I will continue going back there to eat and enjoy the music. I highly recommend this place without hesitation to go out with family, your girls, your buddies, or by yourself . There is amply seating inside and outside. There is no parking lot, only street parking, public transportation is 1 block away which is the 67 and ( 41 bus ( both the limited and local bus stops there) then you have the B and Q trains, there are Dollar vans that cost $2.00 you can take from downtown on livingstone st If you use a wheelchair you will be accompanied. Ok, so now go eat , drink, and be merry.
Vegetarian options: Trust me, you will not be hungry there.?
Parking: Parking on the street, depending on the time or where you park, pay attention to the Meter.
Wheelchair accessibility: You will be accommodated.“

“Food was delicious, we especially liked the chips + guac and corn appetizers. Vibe was fine, music was fine upon entry but cranked up half way through our meal for no apparent reason. Server didn't ask if we wanted a salted rim (we always assume a margarita will include??). On our second round we requested a tahin rim after we noticed other patrons with it. Bartender was making out with her boyfriend as we were on our way out and that was weird. We would return for the food and can overlook the other things because it really was delish.“

“This place is a gem !
They’re open until 2 am so if you got the munchies and want some pupusas or tacos or a drink this is a good place to go or order out from. The pupusas are amazing and they got masa de arroz, which I personally like way more than maíz. If it’s just pupusas you can eat with like 10 bucks. The drinks do add up. Give them a try !“

“Came here for lunch and everything was delicious! The steak bowl is my favorite- it even comes with guacamole 🥑 the chicken tinga and al pastor tacos were delicious! I also love the horchata- the large is very big :) it is enough for 2 people to share. They also have a beautiful, spacious seating area :) the food is flavorful and service is amazing! Jonathan is super friendly which made my experience spectacular! This is definitely a hidden gem in Brooklyn ☺️“

“Parked on 19th Street from Mon–Fri, and on Governors Island at the weekends, this Mexican-food food truck serves up tasty tacos and such. I loved the cecina (salted beef) taco with its tender, flavourful slices of meat, chopped cilantro & onion, and avocado crema. The chicken taco was well-seasoned and tender, too. Two tacos was a perfect lunch. The empanadas are of the fried, short-pastry-style, and pretty large.Kind staff who know how to deal patiently with indecisive tourists, too :)“

The ambiance was inviting, with elegant decor and a cozy atmosphere. Now, let's talk about the food. Each dish was a culinary masterpiece. The flavors were authentic, and the ingredients were fresh. The menu had a wide range of options to cater to various tastes and dietary preferences.Overall, this restaurant deserves a solid 5-star rating for its outstanding food, welcoming ambiance, and top-notch service. “We came here on the recommendation of a friend and even with her glowing review, we were still blown away! Every dish was delicious, the service was friendly and attentive, and the prices were a steal. Our family had the truffle quesadillas, the carne asada tacos, and the langosta tacos. We shared an order of guac and the kids had the flan and churros for dessert. Great dinner; we can't wait to return!“

“been coming here for a real long time. there isn't a better place to get a decent burger around. burritos are good too(chipotle on 65 is terrible in comparison). it's a mom and pop shop that can definitely miss on some foods but it's one of the best value/foods around with inflation and all. they need to put a little more detail in how they make their food but definitely go for the burritos/combos burgers as others have stated.“

“Great local takeout spot for tex mex food. Filling, good taste, inexpensive and friendly people. The enchiladas, chimichangas and combo dish are my go to. Also really like the chorizo taco and black bean taco, black and pinto beans with rice.Even the American food is pretty good, especially if youre trying to decide what to order with a picky eater: burgers, onion rings, chicken or steak sandwiches.Try the fried apple sticks..“

“I get excited to bring friends here so I can see their faces once they bite a kolache! Every time I have one I think about how crazy good the dough is, no clue how they do it. The owners (I’m assuming) are the kindest ever. So consistently bright and welcoming, thank you!“

“Not only are the fajitas nicely stuffed with a good amount of meat chunks and onions and (non-spicy green) peppers, but the meat is always fairly soft and even juicy despite being well-done! The ground-meat filling in the chili tacos are surprisingly salty, however -- and I love salt! Large chunks of cubed tomatoes, though, so that's good. Unfortunately, the salsa is fairly bad...rather like watered-down tomato paste!! The pan-fried dumplings are them overly thick-skinned affairs all the other Chinese restaurants of this kind (neighborhood chop-suey type joint) offer, but their evidently "home-made" soy sauce that accompanies each order is rather good, with a touch of sugar and red chilli pepper (and maybe even a hint of vinegar) for a bit of a nice unexpected kick... certainly not something straight out of a store-bought bottle! Clean and fairly spacious, too, so it's nice to simply dine in.“

“I love love love this place. The staff is very kind. They speak very fluently and there is never a problem with your order. They are polite and I love the food. They even deliver to some places you think they won’t. The reason they don’t get the full five stars is because the restaurant needs a paint job. The fish are beautiful but the paint is old and it takes away from the restaurant just a little. Not the taste tho the food is on point.“

“I love Calexico! I come here regularly with friends and family and am never disappointed. I recommend the barbacoa quesadilla (the caramelized onions are excellent) and any of the burrito bowls. Calexico's food AND drinks are good, which I appreciate. Any of their frozen margs are wonderful. The paloma is delicious as well. The service is consistent and kind. The outdoor seating on the sidewalk is a little crowded but that's not their fault, it's just the location. Inside is lovely.“

“Been coming here for years and the food is always amazing. The tortillas and crispy taco shells are definitely made in house and are soo good. Nothing like the many similar tex-mex options we have in nyc. The steak is top notch. Owners are always kind and service is super quick. I'd gatekeep but they deserve the best. 10/10“

“Fantastic frozen margaritas and piña coladas. The food is pretty good too, especially the fried stuff like the chimichangas and the Taco Salad that comes in a deep fried bowl. The entrees are served with generous sides too so a dish is enough to feed a 6'5" 220lb man-walrus.“

“some of the best Mexican food I've had in nyc
I got green burrito and it was smothered in sauce. I also asked for cheese and it had a good helping of it. it's also cheap for the area. my new go to theater eats ngl instead of bland pizza all the time. they have good to go packaging. salsa is very flavorful and spicy
churro was addicting.
Vegetarian options: good veggie options and they do substitutions“
