“I recently stumbled upon this restaurant while exploring the neighborhood, and after seeing its high ratings, I was eager to give it a try. Unfortunately, it was closed that day, but fate had other plans—on my second attempt, I found it open.
At first glance, the place didn’t seem overly impressive; it had the charm of a family business that’s still finding its footing. However, the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by Chocolate, a lovely and attentive staff member who kept the place clean and welcoming.
Since they didn’t have soul food available that day, we decided to order the Basa with fries. Let me tell you, it was one of the best fried fish dishes I’ve ever had! The fish was incredibly fresh, with a perfectly crispy exterior and tender, soft inside. The seasoning was spot on, and the mild spicy pickled onions with carrots on the side were a fantastic touch—definitely a flavor explosion!
The fries were also quite good, but the star of the meal was undoubtedly the Basa. We ended up ordering the whiting fish as well, and it did not disappoint—just as excellent!
Overall, I’m glad I decided to give this place a shot. I’ll definitely be back, and I highly recommend you check it out. Don’t let the first impression fool you; this hidden gem is worth a visit!“

“I was visiting Brooklyn and needed food, I looked up fish on yelp. It was like ennie mennie minnie moe. I chose Soul of the Sea after I viewed the menu. I called first to see if they are open because a lot of businesses closed due to COVID-19. Someone answered immediately and did in fact confirm that they were open. I informed them that I was coming but. When I arrived I announced that I called and placed my order. The person that took my order was very kind, friendly, and courteous. His customer service was fantastic. I ordered the fish sandwich and asked what kind of fish was on the sandwich, he directed me to the menu and said, whiting, do you see it under section of fish sandwich. I did conquer. He told me the price and asked if that price was fine. I said yes and then ordered a carrot cake. His attitude compelled me to buy something as I was eager to support a mom and pop style restaurant. I told the person taking my order that I was passing through and needed to eat. He thanked me for stopping in. The interaction was wonderfully pleasant, the store clean and the staff was attentive. The person that came to the front of the business to sweep, greeted me and thanked me for stopping in. This is an A class, 5 star service restaurant when it comes to serving the customer. Enough about the interaction and now the food. The sandwich was proportioned with a decent amount that was not too filling. I'm used to pieces of fish that were too long for the bread. I am also very pleased that they gave me wheat bread instead of white. The carrot cake was surprisingly not too sweet as I didn't want nothing sweet sweet. Bravo guy's“

“We had my daughter’s 30th birthday party here and it was absolutely amazing!!! Our hostess Liberty was absolutely incredible!!! She made everything go so smooth and easy!!! I can’t say enough!!! This is a beautiful spot!!! The atmosphere is absolutely magical and has the most incredible view of the Manhattan skyline!!! The food and drinks were so delicious!!! This is a 10 out of 5!!! A must go to for all!!!“

“While strolling around Fulton Mall in Brooklyn, I happened upon this place. The line was nearly out the door so I anticipated that the food would be good or people in Brooklyn are just very hungry! People may be hungry, but the food was really good. I don’t trust everybody’s potato salad, but their potato salad was absolutely delicious. I didn’t give it five stars because I ordered fried whiting and many of the pieces that I received were just the skin, no real meat inside. But I would go back and try a different option.“

“I ordered my food over the phone they told me 20 minutes, I waited an additional 15 upon arrival. Nevertheless, the price was very affordable and pretty tasty. I got fish and fries, I used my own tarter sauce my; the seasoning on the fish was there (although the batter came apart very easily from thr fish). The food was good, service ehh.“

Jay fish market has been my go to for my saw food needs since I moved in the Bronx 6 yearw ago.
The fish is always fresh and the staff is attentive and hard working, they also SERVE fried seafood platters which I intend to TRY but have yet to do so.
The other day when I went to BUY my seafood, I noticed red tilapias. ? I wondered if they WERE a new breed since I never knew that tilapias came in that color, I enquired via google to make sure that they were in fact naturally grown as the black ones. To find out that they are compared to red snapper and it is said that the black ones are usually used for fillets. Anyway I brought one and to my surprise it was delicious, meaty and very tasty ?.
I am giving Jay fish market a thumbs up for selling such good seafood since I have been living in the Bronx. I recommend this location for all your seafood needs, the prices are great, the seafood is fresh and I know the fried seafood is good because people eat in there often even though the place is small.
Enjoy Jay Sea food products, they are top notch in the Bronx.“

“I discovered Brooklyn Chckn ‘N’ Lbstr as a perfect place to have dinner with friends in a casual setting. The place has an intimate and soothing atmosphere, ideal for an evening hangout. I ordered the lobster mac and cheese that was highly creamy and filled with lobster pieces. The serving was quite big, and it was worth every coin! “My deceased mother introduced me to Maxine's over 25 years ago. She LOVED the food! She often purchased meals from Maxine's at least twice a week. I believe these women respected my mother as well. I, too, grew to love the food and RESPECTED the hard working women (Maxine and her Co-worker) who ensured good tasting quality food! In addition, I had the services of this establishment prepare Sunday meals to be delivered to my Mom's home as a result of her experiences with Alzheimer's Disease in the last 4 years of her life! My mother and her Homecare Workers looked forward to these delicious Sunday meals. THANK GOD I was able to provide this service as a result of working as a retiree. At least 3X, when delivery was NOT available from Maxine's, Maxine brought the meals herself to Mom's home. I recommended wholeheartedly this business to as many people who were looking for a GREAT soulful meal to TAKEOUT. YESTERDAY, November 22, 2023, the day after my mother's birthday, I needed a piece of my mother! I had not engaged in purchasing food from Maxine's in a while. I ordered ahead of time for pickup. I took a cab! Once, I got there, I was told by Maxine's Co-worker that I had to wait in line like everyone else who DID NOT PLACE an order ahead of time. I wasn't there to JUMP the LINE or THINK myself better than anyone else! I asked everyone present before the Co-Worker appeared if they were waiting as a result of placing an order for Pickup. They stated they were not! The people who were WAITING for their food were VERY POLITE and UNDERSTOOD I had already placed an order. I am a Senior Citizen! The Co-Worker acted as if she NEVER knew me. This TREATMENT, after several years of ordering from her face to face. It HURT deeply! I have patronized and promoted businesses of African descent all my life! Maxine had the order ready. She had to inform the Co-Worker from the back that the meal was already prepared. However, I was NOT pleased with my meal upon arriving home to partake in it. A great deal of it appeared almost burnt. I spent $26.00 in carfare alone. OUR businesses MUST learn to RESPECT PEOPLE who WALK through their doors! You NEVER know what they are experiencing when they walk through your DOORS! GREAT FOOD is a MEANS of COMFORT to MANY, especially now! Based on my past experiences, I STILL give these women a high rating in HONOR of my mother. I LEARN lessons EVERYDAY and WORK HARD on IMPROVING my PEOPLE SKILLS as well. May WE learn to serve others with GLADNESS! May WE understand that ALL WORK is a result of the many talents bestowed upon us. Clearly, both of these women are GIFTED in what they do!“
