Based on the reviews, Alcala is a family-operated Spanish restaurant that has been a favorite for over 10 years. It is considered the most incredible Spanish food in the city, with an authentic experience that feels like being transported to Northern Spain. The ambiance is perfect for its coziness and authenticity, with a Spanish colonial decor that feels like a warm, inviting home. The food is delicious and authentic, with stand-out dishes including the tapas, paella, croquettes, garlic shrimp, gambas served in sizzling garlic oil, sirloin steak, gambas al ajillo, canelones, boquerones en vinagre, chuleton cabrales, patatas brava, and jamon. The chef, a Spain-native, makes his own wine in Spain and imports it, with the Cabernet Sauvignon being highly recommended. The staff is incredibly welcoming and accommodating, even for allergies like shellfish. Every dish is amazing, and not a plate is left with food still on it. It is an absolute gem in Midtown East and undoubtedly the best Spanish restaurant in all of NYC.
