I’d say these are the best empanadas in New York but that’s a rather bold claim, and I only have personal opinion and misplaced hubris to back that statement up. So I’ll say instead that these are my favorite empanadas in the city, and hands down, better than any from the mother of all empanada competitors just down the street on Ninth Ave.

Criollas @ Columbus Circle Underground Market is a hidden gem. The beef empanada is the best baked empanada in the city, with moist, juicy, and flavorful beef. The corn empanada is also delicious and different from the meat ones. The food is perfect for a takeaway snack, and the staff are so friendly and kind. The empanadas never disappoint and are the best of NYC.
