One word: ESCARGOT. The most delicious snails in garlic and butter, plenty for your bread to sop up. The seafood crepes and duck were delightful. Very friendly, attentive service and cozy romantic atmosphere a lá a real French Bistro. Wonderful selection of wines and full bar. Highly recommend!
I had the Coq au Vin, and my son had the seafood pasta. Both were absolutely delicious. The Coq au Vin was rich, savory, and deeply flavorful, with perfectly tender, beautifully cooked chicken. The seafood pasta was fresh, flavorful, and nicely balanced, with perfectly cooked seafood—not at all overdone. We really enjoyed both dishes.

I have been a customer since 1989 starting with me moving to NYC and attending Juilliard, however I have not been to the restaurant in quite a few years. Last night I returned to celebrate my husband's and my 20th Anniversary. This was my husband's first time and he was not disappointed. The food was as sumptuous as always and the waitstaff were kind and attentive. We gave our compliments to the chef and the end of the evening. La Boite en Bois is a charming NYC restaurant near Lincoln Center, known for its authentic French cuisine and cozy French cafe ambiance. It is a favorite spot for those attending shows at Lincoln Center, offering a great pre-theater meal with traditional dishes that are always delicious. The atmosphere is lovely and comfortable, making it a perfect place to enjoy a relaxed evening. Recent visitors appreciated the improved menu, including dishes like Moules frites, and enjoyed the branzino special and fish stew. The crepe fruit de mer was very good, as was the endive salad and soupe d'onion. The mussels were the best in a really long time, extremely fresh, plump, and the sauce was delicious. While wine prices are high, the quality and consistency justify the cost. Service was a bit questionable, with a feeling that the staff was inadequate for the number of people being served, and some things had to be asked for twice. The cocktails were delicious.
However, some guests found the space very cramped, making it difficult to move and uncomfortable to dine, especially when the restaurant was busy. Despite this, the food remained excellent, with seafood crepes and onion soup receiving high praise. The duck was disappointing, tasting dry and flavorless, though the salads and seafood dishes highlighted the menu. The environment and staff received positive remarks for their attentiveness and warmth. Overall, La Boite en Bois continues to be a lovely, romantic spot that many customers return to, thanks to its authentic cuisine and friendly service.
