“The food was good. We did order the very basic things like the burger and steak with fries. We also tried the souffle for dessert. Everything was good, but I'm not sure it was really worth the price. When this was a neighborhood spot and the prices matched (if that was ever the case), I could see it making a lot more sense. But at these prices, I don't think it maths. Nothing wrong with the food, but also not the best of anything I've ever had.“

“Had to swing by the new Boucherie and see what this new addition was bringing to the Chicago scene. My visit on a Sunday at 7:30pm was way different than my visit on a Thursday night at 8:30pm. Sunday was calm, spacious with a very moderate noise level but Thursday night was oddly the complete opposite - it was loud, busy and had much less space! 😂 I’d definitely say be cognizant of that when you go; the vibes can vary. The drinks were good - my favorite was “La vie en rose” and the French martini was tasty as well. Loved the escargots and the garlic butter sauce they were drowned in! I also had the saumon roti and that choron sauce on top was delish! I wasn’t a fan of the Paris-Brest for dessert, but the crème brûlée was good! The interior is so beautiful! 😍 Stop by for a visit and see how you like this new Chicago restaurant! Ask for Manuel to be your waiter - he was the best!!!“

“This is what we call “fine dining.” We did not reserve the main dining room, as one of our party did not care for prix fixe. We opted for the lounge as you can have from the menu or prix fixe. When you first arrive, you are greeted by a pleasant hat/coat check lady. We arrived early and said we would wait for the other couple and were invited to wait in the intimate cocktail area. The cocktails were superb and served with a house-made cocktail snack. When the guests of the party arrived, we were escorted to the lounge area. An intimate area with about six to eight tables. After being seated and greeted by the head server (maître d' or captain), who explained our options, we all opted for the menu. After looking at all the choices, we decided to split two appetizers. Even though the number of items on each choice was uneven, the server said, “Let me take care of it". And then beautifully presented plates arrived with equal portions. And it only got better from there. The entrées were each explained in detail, including their origins and how they were prepared. I could go on and on. The fish, beef, duck breast, and pork were everything we expected and more. We all commented, maybe the best we have had. The house made desserts were perfect. I had possibly the best cheese plate I have ever had. The entire staff of servers were professionals and enhanced the evening. The most disappointing part of the evening was when a guest entering the dining room (after removing his overcoat) came in dressed in Dockers and a short-sleeve polo. This is an insult to the owner, the chef, and the entire staff at this fine restaurant. But maybe he was an elite or a “special” person. We all said we would be back.“

“We had Christmas Eve dinner here and it was a wonderful experience! There was a partial view of the tree from our seat but it was still very special. The dining room isn’t super large and feels cozy and festive. It wasnt too noisy either. Service was great, very professional. There was a moment when they cleared crumbs off the table and accidentally brushed some onto my dads lap😅

The food was wonderful! The flavors were delicious and filled us up. I read other reviews that the portions were small but I wouldn’t agree. Only the lobster was “small” as the serving was only half a lobster. I had the Dover sole and got very full. The starter burrata pasta was so delicious I almost wished it was my main!“

“Dining at Le Rivage has become a family tradition. My MIL would eat there when she lived in NYC decades ago. She returned with her son (my husband) when he was young. Now, in 2025, we took our boys there on their first visit to NYC. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The food is always wonderful. Highly recommended.“

“Excellent food with horrible service. I had the strangest time here, where the food was incredible but the service didn’t match. After being seated we waited an agonizing amount of time for anyone to actually say hello and serve us some water and bring us menus. I was starting to think maybe we offended someone or were being pranked we waited so long. This theme continued as our waitress proceeded to bring us one of the wrong dishes we didn’t order and then not even give us the dessert we asked for. I’m not sure what Carmille’s problem is but don’t take it out on us for wanting some good food.“

“I took my friend to Balthazar for her birthday and we had lunch. We had a 2:30 reservation and the place was completely packed. We both ordered burgers and they were both amazing. They were seasoned well and were juicy. Don’t skip the fries. We decided not to order dessert. We were very full. But the waiter knew it was my friend’s birthday and still brought over the best vanilla ice cream I’ve ever had for her. They even put a candle in it. I will definitely be back and make sure you make a reservation was packed on a random Wednesday afternoon.“

“Honestly, La Ripaille is fine. The wine selection is good, the servers are very nice, however the owner is exceptionally rude and uncomfortable to be around. He openly scolded servers doing a fantastic job in the middle of the dining room for no reason. The food is good enough, but a bit overpriced. That being said, the fries taste remarkably like fries that I'm sure you've had before... that's all I'll say about that if you get what I mean. Overall, pretty good, would consider going back.“

“We visited Maison Close and had a good experience. We were seated promptly, but we did find the cocktails and wine list to be pricier than expected. We ordered a bottle of Chablis, which was enjoyable.

For appetizers, the escargots were very good and definitely a highlight, while the beet salad was just okay. For mains, the burger stood out as very good, while the salmon Benedict was decent but not particularly memorable.

We finished with desserts—the île flottante and the fondant au chocolat—which were both average and didn’t quite leave a lasting impression.

One important note: we were expecting more of a lively, party-like brunch atmosphere, but found out that the party really only starts around 4pm. So if you’re going specifically for that vibe, it’s worth planning your visit accordingly.

Overall, a solid experience with some standout dishes, but with higher-than-expected pricing and a more subdued brunch atmosphere than anticipated.“
