“Great Spot in NYC!! I recommend getting there 10 minutes early and to always have a reservation. The staff were super friendly. The kitchen had already been informed about my allergies. Their Black Label Burger is super juicy. We also ordered the Smoked Duck Breast which also very good. Finally we ordered their Apple Tart which was huge. 10/10“

“This is what we call “fine dining.” We did not reserve the main dining room, as one of our party did not care for prix fixe. We opted for the lounge as you can have from the menu or prix fixe. When you first arrive, you are greeted by a pleasant hat/coat check lady. We arrived early and said we would wait for the other couple and were invited to wait in the intimate cocktail area. The cocktails were superb and served with a house-made cocktail snack. When the guests of the party arrived, we were escorted to the lounge area. An intimate area with about six to eight tables. After being seated and greeted by the head server (maître d' or captain), who explained our options, we all opted for the menu. After looking at all the choices, we decided to split two appetizers. Even though the number of items on each choice was uneven, the server said, “Let me take care of it". And then beautifully presented plates arrived with equal portions. And it only got better from there. The entrées were each explained in detail, including their origins and how they were prepared. I could go on and on. The fish, beef, duck breast, and pork were everything we expected and more. We all commented, maybe the best we have had. The house made desserts were perfect. I had possibly the best cheese plate I have ever had. The entire staff of servers were professionals and enhanced the evening. The most disappointing part of the evening was when a guest entering the dining room (after removing his overcoat) came in dressed in Dockers and a short-sleeve polo. This is an insult to the owner, the chef, and the entire staff at this fine restaurant. But maybe he was an elite or a “special” person. We all said we would be back.“

“Had to swing by the new Boucherie and see what this new addition was bringing to the Chicago scene. My visit on a Sunday at 7:30pm was way different than my visit on a Thursday night at 8:30pm. Sunday was calm, spacious with a very moderate noise level but Thursday night was oddly the complete opposite - it was loud, busy and had much less space! 😂 I’d definitely say be cognizant of that when you go; the vibes can vary. The drinks were good - my favorite was “La vie en rose” and the French martini was tasty as well. Loved the escargots and the garlic butter sauce they were drowned in! I also had the saumon roti and that choron sauce on top was delish! I wasn’t a fan of the Paris-Brest for dessert, but the crème brûlée was good! The interior is so beautiful! 😍 Stop by for a visit and see how you like this new Chicago restaurant! Ask for Manuel to be your waiter - he was the best!!!“

“A great experience in New York, and certainly our favorite dinner of the entire trip.

We started the evening at the bar with a couple of excellent cocktails made by Alex, along with several small plates to share that immediately set the tone for the night.

It was the last night of their $60 menu, so we decided to give it a try. The value for money was incredible: great ingredients, thoughtful and generous dishes, and plenty of flavor. It was a great way to experience the restaurant’s cuisine.

A special mention to the service as well, which was attentive and professional while still feeling warm and welcoming.

Congratulations to Chef Bastien and the entire team. There is a real identity behind the food and you can feel the passion in every dish. Wishing them all the success for the future.“

“Dinner at Essential by Christophe was truly an experience from beginning to end. Chef Christophe Bellanca’s tasting menu was thoughtful, beautifully executed, and full of layers of flavor. Every course felt intentional, balanced, creative, and refined without ever feeling overdone.

What stood out most was how each dish had its own personality while still flowing naturally into the next. The seafood courses were delicate and beautifully seasoned, the sauces added depth without overpowering the main ingredients, and every plate was presented with incredible attention to detail. You could really taste the technique and care behind the menu.

““CHELSEA’S NEXT IT GIRL” I first saw her in the Lobby Bar at the Hotel Chelsea. She passed like a shadow, her movements swift, effortless, elegant. A dancer I later found out. We bonded over a shared Texas background. On my next visit, she was hosting at the front desk of El Quiote, miscast in the darkness of the faithfully restored restaurant. The first “It Girl” was Clara Bow, the American silent film star. Although my research didn’t reveal a connection between Bow and the Chelsea Hotel, the infamous hotel has had its share of “It Girls.” A few from an exhaustive list include — Sarah Bernhardt; Madonna; Edie Sedgwick; Nico; Janis Joplin; Viva; and Gaby Hoffman. “Chelsea It Girls” are far more than pretty faces and sex appeal anointed by an ogling patriarchy. They are dedicated and accomplished women who created their own acclaim. They are activists and leaders such as Elizabeth Gurley Flynn and Storme de Larverie, and pioneers who reached the pinnacle of their craft including Isabella Gardener, Shirley Clarke, Niki de Saint Phalle, Jennie June, and more. In the 1927 film, “IT”, which cemented Clara Bow’s “It Girl” status, the qualities are defined in the silent intertitles. They state, “The possessor of “IT” must be absolutely un-selfconscious, and must have that magnetic ‘sex appeal’ which is irresistible.” In our contemporary gender-fluid society an inquisitive intelligence, un-selfconscious grace, and a dedicated Artistry remain the markers of “It-ism.” After a fraught fifteen-year renovation, the Hotel Chelsea has emerged beautifully restored, yet void of her next “It Girl.” Chelsea summons and anoints her “It Girls,” leaving us to discover them as they blossom. Of late, as the maitre d' at the hopping new Cafe Chelsea, she casts her “star power” on Chelsea’s next generation of patrons. Her name is Valerie. I’ve called her Val a few times.
