Plus, I have been to Chapter I in Manhattan where they made a tasty salad and a delicious Alice's Croque Madame sandwich. Here's hoping we can all still support local business for Alice's Tea Cup whether it's still around in Brooklyn or Manhattan.“

Pembroke Room New American • $$$
28 E 63rd St, New York

“Wanting to take my daughter for a special treat whilst in New York for a few days we booked afternoon tea in the Pembroke Room at the Lowell Hotel after knocking back the Plaza after reading a few dodgy reviews. So pleased we did as we spent over 2 hours enjoying every moment. The service was excellent as was the food, especially the warm scones. It’s a shame the cream was “Devonshire” rather than the traditional Clotted Cornish but other than that it was perfection. Lovely small intimate setting too where we felt our custom was welcome rather than feeling just a number as we were one of just 3 tables there. Would we return? Absolutely!“

“This is the second time I've gone to Lady Mendl's this year and both times the food and service have been superb for me and the group I was with. For context I am part of a fashion club that goes out for tea in groups of 5 or more. Yesterday afternoon I went with a group of 10 and the actual tea service was lovely, the staff were very attentive & helpful. The tea was fresh and the food was warm & delicious to offset the rainy weather of the day. As nothing is perfect our experience was lovely until the very end. As we were leaving some members of our fashion group wanted to take pictures in the lobby with the surrounding décor to remember the event. We made sure to be respectful. A middle aged woman with short blond hair and with a heavier build comes into the lobby and immediately yells: "What the hell is this?!". Instead of asking us if we were helped she made rude comments such as "You shouldn't be here" and got snappy at the hostess about our group. She implied we were just randomly in there off the street and made zero effort to actually speak with us. I was informed by the hostess that she was the owner of the establishment. There was no reason for her hostility. I would have been more positive had it not been for the behavior of who I believe was the owner. Her actions towards our group and the hostess left a really sour impression on what would have been a positive evening. I feel bad for the staff if she is like that more often then not. As someone else has stated: there was no one else at the lobby/salon area at this time of this incident. Our party had spent a lot of time and money reserving a table at this location and that blond woman needs a remember to not judge a book by it's cover.“

“The breakfast environment at the St. Regis New York is quite good. There are not too many people dining, so the dining experience is very good. Premium members of the hotel receive free breakfast. You can choose any breakfast on the menu. The steak is very worthwhile. It is a serious steak meal. Compared with ordinary breakfasts, it is much inferior. The orange juice is fresh and delicious. If the latte is too strong, you can add more. Want milk.“

“It was a nice place to just talk and hang out with friends! They also had games and books for you to read while you lounge in their carpeted and cushion area. With the the Christmas lights strung up on the walls, it really felt like you've stepped into someone's living room. It had very homey cozy vibes to it. People are required to purchase a drink or food item in order to enter the carpeted area, and everyone has to take off their shoes before they get onto the carpet area (there are shoe racks).

We tried the rose (tasted like lychee?), mango (mango flavor overpowered the lemonade) and regular lemonade (a bit sour which is a given). But I liked that there wasn't really a time limit on how long you could chill there. My friends and I ended up spending about 2 hours playing a board game and chatting away.“
