About The Hungarian Pastry Shop

The Hungarian Pastry Shop offers a wide variety of delicious and flavorful sweets, reminiscent of those found in Hungary and Serbia. The pastries are available at a good value for the price. The hot chocolate is great, and the atmosphere is cozy, attracting college students who come to study, work, or play board games. It is also a favorite neighborhood coffee shop on the UWS, with a welcoming vibe that has lasted for decades. The owners and staff work hard to create a friendly environment for locals and tourists alike. Customers appreciate that the place is dog friendly, sometimes offering whipped cream for dogs, and they often have great conversations while waiting in line. The shop is kid-friendly, with cookies loved by children. For colder days, Russian hot chocolate with whipped cream on top is highly recommended, while an iced apple cider is perfect for warmer weather. Visitors enjoy the great service, excellent coffee, and delicious pastries, including the famous Baklava and cream puff pastry. It’s a cozy spot to relax and enjoy a sweet treat or a warm drink during any visit.

This place is very popular—there was a line out the door—but the wait was worth it. If you want a taste of Hungarian sweetness, make the trip, and I say this as a first generation Hungarian-American who grew up with a lot of these mouth-watering specialties!

Amazing affordable baked goods.

I love this place, living just up the block for 30+ years, now is that I'm hooked. I suggest going early to avoid the long lines. But you must watch the line cutters because the workers are so busy behind the counter, they are not too vigilant if those who cut the lines. A little more organization would help to prevent this from happening. Not fair to those who are patiently waiting on the long lines outside waiting for their turn. That is the only downfall to report. But nonetheless,...read full review
