USHIWAKAMARU Sushi Omakase Reviews
Best omakase sushi experience in NYC by far during my 27 years living here. I still think about the food and Hide-san’s hospitality—even though it’s been a long time since I was last there at the 23rd St. location. I can’t wait to visit the new LES location and see him again.
Fairly old school edomae omakase. Chef owner has been around in the states since the 80s and something about his style and general disposition feels very much throwback to the glory days. Some courses were truly as good as you expect from pure edomae level reflecting styles found in and around Tokyo going back decades. Based on the reviews, USHIWAKAMARU Sushi Omakase offers the best omakase sushi experience in NYC. It is a fairly old school edomae omakase. The chef owner has been around since the 80s, and his style feels like a throwback to the glory days. Some courses were truly as good as you expect from pure edomae level. The fish selection was pretty solid, especially multiple cuts of Toro. The chef works with traditional “basic” techniques, which is an absolute taste explosion in a mouth. The setting is intimate with a completely unhurried tempo. However, some cuts were inconsistent and rice quality varied, with the first batch being underseasoned and mushy. It is considered a bit overpriced for 15 courses. Overall, it is an exceptional sushi place.
