“Fred’s is the perfect little neighborhood stop — cozy, friendly, and full of that old-school charm. The donuts are fresh, fluffy, and not overly sweet, with great variety (the classic glazed is a must-try). The coffee is strong, smooth, and pairs perfectly with the pastries. Staff are warm and welcoming, making the experience even better.”

“coffee was delicious, a lot of different options & i love the asian grocery options that were available for sale.
only 4 stars because we waited about 20 minutes for 2 cups of coffee 🙃 & it didn’t seem like there was any urgency. we came up from NYC so maybe we’re just used to the hustle there. would skip if you’re on a time crunch.”

“We went to hike Kaaterskill and stopped here twice. Not only was the service fast and the food yummy, but they were so hospitable. The first night they helped us get oriented to the village and gave us a run down of what was open/closed/available. The second day, after a couple issues (had some hiking gear stolen), they fed us on the house. It made our day a little bit better and that’s what life is all about. Highly recommend to anyone passing through. These are some good people all around.”

“We had an absolutely outstanding dinner at Restaurant Matilda. We started with drinks at the bar, where the bartenders were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, setting the tone for a fantastic night. From there, we moved to a cozy corner booth for what turned into a true feast.
The room strikes that perfect balance between lively and energetic, yet still intimate and comfortable enough for a long, lingering dinner. After some incredible cocktails, we ordered an array of starters, with the chilled oysters and confit tuna belly crackers as standouts. Every bite was beautifully prepared. We also loved the mushrooms & lentils and the golden chicken, both deeply flavorful and satisfying.
The service throughout the night was warm, attentive and seamless. Can’t recommend it enough!”

“My sister and I had dinner at Prominence a couple of days ago. What an enjoyable meal! The food was wonderful, with generous portions. I had the swordfish special and the fish was very fresh! The Burrata Mozzerella appetizer was delicious, as were the rice balls. My sister had an appetizer special (fried pork belly) and linguini with a variety of seafood in the sauce- also delicious! The service was great- our waitress was Lydia- very prompt and there when you needed her without hanging over us. We would highly recommend Prominence!”

“We love their breads (the croissant bread is amazing as French toast or grilled cheese) and their pastries. Haven’t had a bad choice at all.”

In a quiet corner of the morning, where the world still stirs gently from its slumber, I have long been a faithful companion to this place since the day its doors first opened. It has become, for me, a small and cherished ritual—an escape from the turning wheels of daily life, where one may indulge and be quietly restored.
There, a cup of coffee is set before me, warm and comforting as a hearth-fire in a traveler’s hall, and beside it a humble scone—yet no ordinary fare, but one that seems to carry with it a kindness of craft and care. Together they bring a moment of stillness, as though time itself softens its pace.
Their baguette—ah, it is a thing of wonder, golden and crisp as if kissed by the sun, with a heart so tender that one might think it wrought by elven hands. And the cinnamon rolls… light as drifting clouds over green hills, they melt away upon the tongue, leaving only sweetness and a trace of delight, like a memory of spring.
There is, in this place, not only food, but warmth—an atmosphere that gathers you in, like a well-lit inn at the edge of a long road, where comfort, flavor, and quiet joy are found in abundance.”

“5 Stars ⭐️ Sandakan Bake is an absolute gem. The owner is nothing short of amazing — a true artisan whose passion shows in every detail. His pastries are works of art: beautifully rustic, handcrafted, and full of authentic flavor. From the towering whipped-cream-topped key lime pies to the golden, perfectly crinkled pecan pies, everything looks and tastes like it came straight out of a high-end European pastry boutique. The atmosphere he creates is warm, welcoming, and uniquely charming — a mix of farmhouse elegance and old-world bakery magic. Every visit feels personal, and his kindness and professionalism make the experience even sweeter. If you appreciate real craftsmanship, unforgettable flavors, and a bakery with soul, Sandakan Bake is an absolute must. Truly one of the best pastry artists around.”
