“The best pernil (Caribbean style fresh ham) and tostones (twice fried unripe plantains) in the area. It's converted ice cream stand. A few tables in and a few out. It's primarily lunch. Right off the highway, but very much a local eatery. They do lots of takeout. Mostly lunch.“

“I almost passed Nirvana by, and I’m so glad I didn’t!
I was actually looking for another restaurant that I remembered being at this location, so I was a little confused when I arrived. The exterior and parking area could use a little attention, and there was some standing water in the parking lot, so initially I wasn’t sure if I was going to stop. Thankfully, I did.
Before I even walked in, a gentleman sitting outside greeted me with a warm hello. I later realized that was Nelson, the owner, and that first interaction ended up being a reflection of the hospitality I experienced throughout my visit.
Nelson interacted with each customer who came in, and it made the experience feel personal rather than transactional. I’m a pretty picky eater, so I had questions! He patiently answered them, made recommendations based on flavors I was already comfortable with, and then challenged me to step a little outside of my usual palate. It was well worth it.
I tried the jerk chicken empanadas and was especially intrigued by the guava and cheese empanadas. I wasn’t sure what to expect from that combination, but I really enjoyed the sweet and savory flavors together.
I also had a fresh fruit smoothie. It tasted fresh and refreshing; next time, I’ll personally ask for mine a little sweeter to bring the fruit flavors forward more, but that’s simply my preference.
I also learned that Nirvana offers Puerto Rican cuisine and catering for events, which immediately caught my attention as an event planner. Nelson even encouraged me to bring my business cards so he can share them with his customers who are in need of an event planner, which I truly appreciated.
This visit was a good reminder not to judge a place solely by its exterior. What started with me almost driving away turned into good food, genuine conversation, and some of the most personal hospitality I’ve experienced from a restaurant owner.
I’ll definitely be back—and next time I may let Nelson challenge my palate again!“

“Mina’s Spanish Kitchen does not have Mina’s Spanish Kitchen the building! It is located in the strip mall where the movie theater use to be. Walden Bank across from the cemetery is where Mina’s is located and your GPS will have you confused“

“Tonight was our first time trying this new place. I’m really happy we took the chance. The food was delicious. If you’re hesitant to try it don’t be. You won’t be disappointed.“
