We arranged to be in Cleveland for a tasting at the Spice kitchen and were treated to a selection of appetizers, salads, and entrees for our wedding. Everything at our tasting was amazing. It was difficult to narrow down to our absolute favorites, but when I tried the beef short rib, I knew it was the one. Much like the tears of joy my wife had when she found “the dress,” I was overjoyed with the beef short rib. It delighted many of our wedding guests as well, while the salmon entree left a similar impression on the fish connoisseurs. The quality of dishes was unquestionable. Furthermore, Spice leans into seasonality when providing a menu, which undoubtedly promotes ingredient freshness and quality. We had about 100 guests at our wedding, most of whom selected one of two fantastic meat entrees. However, we also required a vegan dish, and the vegan entree was not of lesser quality. It was a delicious curry, demonstrating that Spice provided exceptional dishes to every guest. Spice receives high marks for quality of service by catering to every single guest at our wedding’s plated dinner. Pulling off exceptional food and service required thorough planning and terrific communication. “As a May 2026 bride at Windows on the River, I want to note that I had a lovely day. I’m writing this in the hopes that some couples do not experience some mishaps that we did.

1. During our ceremony, in the Bridge View Room, staff could be heard loudly talking behind the room divider. So much so, family members in the front row (farthest from the room divider) could hear.
2. During cocktail hour, many guests ventured the entire way through the aquarium without seeing a single server with a passed appetizer.
3. The cake-cutting table was not set with two forks and a dessert plate. Additionally, our cake-cutting knife was still wrapped in the box, which was on the table, and still had the sticky note on it reading “for cake cutting.” We weren’t about to unwrap and unbox these in front of 300 guests. So, in front of our guests, we had to run to our sweetheart table, grab forks, run back to the cake table in the middle of the dance floor and grab bites. Not being able to have our traditional cake cutting with our special serving set was a bummer.
4. Obtaining parking for guests was difficult. The lot is not owned by Windows, though the companies work closely together. The staff at Windows had to constantly remind the team at the parking lot to even answer us as prospective customers. I hope the venue and the lot can establish a better communication system that benefits everyone.

Simply put, these issues were disappointing for the amount of money paid.

That being said, many things were also wonderful! The space was gorgeous for photos and dancing, the dinner was delicious, the bartenders were fabulous, the aquarium was a hit, and Kathy was always quick to respond.

I write this in good faith hoping that the venue sees this and does not allow situations like this to happen with other couples and their families. We still had a beautiful day and don’t regret booking with the venue, but guest experience could be improved.“

“Marge catered a party for 50 at our home and we cannot recommend her highly enough. Her menu is extensive, prices fair, and everything is home cooked. She and her staff came to set up hours three hours before the party and food was delivered piping hot at the time we requested. Guests fought over her stuffed cabbage and her pastry tray was so good, everything was gone before I could get a piece. She supplied all serving pieces, including REAL silverware, not plastic. She is super organized, energetic, and a joy to work with. We knew she was good but she more than exceeded our expectations.“

Jay was a breeze to work with- and totally understood and delivered on the vision with all three events. His many years of experience means that he's able to tweak your menus so they make sense, and make them the most cost efficient for you. The food was tasty, and beautifully displayed. One thing to note-- Jay's a busy though laid back guy- but he gets it done. We connected with him a year ahead, though we finalized menus, etc. just weeks before the event, which worked out very well. I would use Cafe 56 again for future events in a heartbeat!“
