“based on my time in this town and in this restaurant, you probably aren’t here looking for which place to dine but rather how bad your food poisoning will be after you consume the food of one of the three different establishments in town. well rest assured, The Mine Tavern will provide minimal discomfort during and after your consumption of their burgers. Don’t show up on a Friday or Saturday night expecting good service but it’s hard to complain about a tasty Mine Burger and a $30 tab for two drinks, fries, and a burger. They were nice enough to change the TV channel when I asked but expect to witness bad karaoke if you are around on a Friday night.“
“We ate here for a belated anniversary dinner. Both of us thought the food was simply amazing. Unpretentious, flavorful, and decent portions.I had the pork chop with a corn and mushroom cream sauce, sweet potato croquettes, and grilled veggies, while my wife had linguini alfredo and we shared a salad. It was a Friday night and the musician was a very talented jazz guitarist. For a last minute call, we were able to get in.We will be back. I promise, we *will* be back!“
“Diamond in the rough. This is a little place that is good. My order was goofed, but it was so yummy I was thrilled. Bacon egg sandwich instead of sausage worked wonderfully. They were busy, so people are finding out about this wonderful place.“
“Small restaurant, but got seated fairly quickly and food came very fast. Street parking was a bit difficult to find. Atmosphere was a typical older diner. Waitress was very friendly and attentive. Had a veggie omelet, hashbrowns, and biscuit & gravy. Husband had egg sandwich and shared my meal. My meal was very good. Would definitely go back.“
“My girlfriend and I have been there several times before and even had my 50th birthday party there, but today we went for the Easter brunch and it's the best buffet I have ever been to. Everything we tried was excellent and we can't wait to go back again.“
“This is an Athen's institution. I was a local resident (a townie) my family loved coming here. Back then it was really good chicken at an excellent price. The quality has come down some, the prices have went up (of course they did, inflation). However I paid 10 bucks for 2 pieces of blackberry pie. One for my daughter and one for me. Not a single blackberry was found in either slice. It was all "thickening" as my mother would say and crust. Inflation or not if you are selling blackberry pie, it should contain blackberries. We receive thickened juice and crust.“
“I spent a night going around to all the bars around uptown Athens and found that The Union is where all the queers and indie folks hang out (which is exactly my kind of place). Also, their bathroom has fancy toilet paper, like charmin or somethings. Love this place. Also the bartender rendell is very kind.“
“Never been to Athens before and got trapped eating Cafe food for a week. Ventured off and found the Pub, which lives up to its name. Great burgundy door leading you into a gallery of memorabilia, laughter and good vibes. I sat at the bar was quickly greeted and ordered wings, beer and a double of Jamison. The wings came out quickly and were a great size for the price. If I ever come to Athens again, I'd definitely stop by.“
“Absolutely loved this place! The employees were chill, the menu was huge, and the sandwich was delicious (my mom and I split the Feta is Betta on sundried tomato and was a perfect snack). The atmosphere was classic old-school college campus - chalk on the walls, old photos, etc but was still very clean. I would try every bagel on this menu if I lived here. Maybe I'm just used to paying way too much for underwhelming stuff (I mean really, a bagel shouldn't cost more than 7 bucks) but I still thought the prices here were extraordinarily reasonable. If I can get a sandwich for less than 10 bucks I'm happy, let alone $5-$7 (which is kinda sad, but hey, it's the times we live in). Now we need a place like this in Columbus - if y'all could open up a brick and mortar there and keep the prices the same, I think it'd be a hit (we're severely lacking these kinds of places).“
“Good and service - excellent. This is our second time here and it’s great! Eggs, bacon, pancakes, MONKEY BREAD!!! And the server - awesome. I wish I knew her name so I could recognize her in this review. Keep up the great work. We’ll be back.“
“First of all this place is kind of hard to find if you're not looking for it. A little hole-in-the-wall shop that sells greasy satisfying drunk food. It's a little bit of a wait if it's busy. It is right across from the union so it's the perfect place to refuel. And it's not too pricey. Pretty decent, never done me wrong before.“
“Went on the advice of many a parent comment on OU Parents’ social media pages…this restaurant is a gem and I wish we’d discovered it years ago! Such a wonder atmosphere, great service and such unique and delicious meals!Dietary restrictions: We asked about certain ingredients for food allergy reasons and they were very thorough in their answers!“
“Grabbed a few beers here while visiting Athens on a Hocking Hills trip! I'm from Columbus and love their new location there. This one is a lot smaller, but beautiful inside and their beers are incredible. The host we had on Thursday was SO kind in explaining our questions. We sat on the patio and had a wonderful time. Excited to come back and try the food.“
“If you're longing for a slice of your college days and a spot with fantastic vibes, Red Brick Tavern is the place to be! The cheap drinks are a real deal. It's the kind of spot that transports you back to those carefree moments, creating an instant sense of nostalgia. The real gem of our visit, however, was our bartender, Brandon. This guy is not just pouring drinks; he's crafting an experience. Brandon is a super funny guy who genuinely seems to love what he does. His enthusiasm is infectious, making the visit not just about the drinks but about the overall enjoyment of being in the moment. The place is a testament to the fact that a good bartender can elevate your entire experience. The drinks were great, but Brandon's charisma and passion for his craft made the evening memorable. Red Brick Tavern is more than a bar; it's a place where the staff adds that extra special touch to your night out.If you're in the mood for affordable drinks, a nostalgic ambiance, and the chance to be served by someone like Brandon, don't miss out on Red Brick Tavern. It's a hidden gem that brings a bit of college spirit to your night out. Cheers to Brandon and the Red Brick team for making our visit truly exceptional!“
“Larry's Dawg House has amazing food, provided by a pleasant and attentive staff! Footlong hot dogs, great coney sauce, great fries cooked to order, and some of the best onion rings I have had. Wrap it up with a frozen treat, of which I cannot say enough about their artic twists. Picture a Dairy Queen, but with more soul, local art, and better prices. Classic food with a comfortable and easy small town feel. If you are in Athens, Larry's Dawg House is definitely worth a visit!“
“Great drinks. Great people. Busy even on a Monday! Great service. Great food. Great chicken sandwich. Zack and Jake had great service. Definitely recommend coming here. They play country on busier nights in the basement , but they still had great music upstairs! Best Bar in Athens!!“
“Really enjoyed the food. The service was warm, friendly and prompt. The prices were surprising: $4 for a draft beer!We were sad for them that our table appeared to be their only customers on Homecoming Saturday evening. We will return when we next visit Alma Mater.“
“The food was great. The atmosphere was down a bit because it was grad weekend. It wasn't busy enough to have the pace of our service but my assumption is some was new to the staff, or perhaps just feeling the weekend a little bit. Either way nothing to complain about other the pace. Food is always great even with the limited menu for the big weekend. Salad and burgers are great. Fries are next level.“
“Food was not great. Cheese on my nachos was cold, beans needed to be warmer than they were. My friend said that his meat on his entree was low quality and not cooked well. However, the most redeeming qualities of Broney’s are the on draft beer prices, the outdoor patio, and the numerous TVs in case you are interested in a certain sporting event or are tryna win a bet. The staff was super nice to my big ol’ black lab and gave him water and love when he needed it.Kid-friendliness: Extremely child friendly with the outdoor patio“
“My first time here.. I've been wanting to try it for a while. My aunt is a frequent patron here since moving to Athens from Whitehall. She loves Tammy's! My hubs and I were dropping stuff off to my daughter at her workplace in Nelsonville so it was the perfect time to try it out. I ordered a cheese omelet with a side of Bacon and keto toast.. They have keto bread!!! ? Hubs got a bacon cheeseburger with fair style fries. My omelet came with hash browns or home fries.. I ordered home fries and gave to my hubs. Our food came out hot and tasted great! They serve breakfast all day, if interested. The coffee was good and frequently topped off. Our server was Dierdra... A very sweet and attentive waitress. We don't live near Nelsonville but I would eat here again without reservations. Plus.. Check out those cool cars parked out front! ?“
